The Institut Pasteur is inviting applications for an ANR-funded postdoctoral fellowship in the Biology and Genetics of the Bacterial Cell Wall Unit, headed by Ivo G. Boneca.
The project investigates how gut bacteria, particularly Helicobacter pylori, release peptidoglycan fragments and how these bacterial molecules influence and shape the host immune system.
The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary environment and collaborate with research teams from the Technical University of Munich and Monash University.
Study how H. pylori interacts with the host and contributes to immune-system regulation through the release of peptidoglycan fragments.
Investigate the mechanisms involved in the release and processing of bacterial peptidoglycan fragments and their effects on host responses.
Apply mass spectrometry and LC-MS/MS approaches to characterize bacterial cell-wall-derived molecules and peptidoglycan fragments.
Use organoid systems to investigate host–microbe interactions and understand how bacterial molecules influence host biology.
Work with advanced experimental systems, including gut-on-chip platforms and in vitro models, to study bacterial–host interactions.
Use animal models to investigate the biological effects and mechanisms of bacterial peptidoglycan fragments in vivo.
Apply confocal microscopy and cellular imaging approaches to study bacterial interactions and immune-related processes.

The project builds on previous research investigating the dissemination of peptidoglycan fragments across the body from the gut.
The successful postdoctoral researcher will study how Helicobacter pylori releases peptidoglycan fragments and how these molecules interact with and influence the host immune system.
The project will combine microbiology, mass spectrometry, confocal microscopy, organoid models, gut-on-chip systems, and animal models to investigate these mechanisms.
The research is conducted in collaboration with teams from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and Monash University.
