Saint Antoine Research Centre in Paris is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to study adipose tissue pathophysiology in the context of HIV infection and aging. The project focuses on how two ART regimens affect adipose tissue distribution and function, using patient samples, transcriptomics, and preclinical models.
The successful candidate will analyze biopsies, perform histology and RNA-seq analyses, and contribute to publications under senior investigators Claire Lagathu and BFève.

The Saint Antoine Research Centre is an institution accredited by INSERM and Sorbonne University comprising 12 research teams and employing around 400 staff. It was designed to optimise the significant potential for translational research held by teams specializing in human pathophysiology in rapidly evolving fields such as oncology, haematology, metabolism and inflammation. The CRSA brings together staff with a wide range of expertise, spanning from cellular and molecular biology through preclinical animal experimentation and clinical investigation, and integrates translational research from the laboratory bench to the patient’s bedside.
Our teams carry out projects covering fundamental aspects, integrated pre-clinical and clinical physiology, pathophysiology and therapeutics. They work in close collaboration with the clinical and biological departments at Saint-Antoine, Trousseau and Tenon hospitals. The CRSA teams are supported by an administrative team and, for their research, have access to a state-of-the‑art EOPS animal facility and technological platforms for cellular imaging, flow cytometry and mass spectrometry.
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the “Alterations in adipose tissue associated with HIV infection and aging, and their cardiometabolic consequences” research group head by Pr V Béréziat and Dr C Lagathu, in the team of Pr B Fève “ Lipodystrophies, metabolic and hormonal adaptations, and aging” in the Saint Antoine Research Center (CRSA).
Project context:
The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible of adipose tissue part of the metabolic sub-study of the ELDORADO trial. This trial compares the efficacy and effects on adipose tissue quantity and quality of two antiretroviral regimens (doravirine/tenofovir/lamivudine and dolutegravir/tenofovir/emtricitabine or lamivudine) in treatment-naive people with HIV ( https://eldorado-trial.com ).
Treatment with dolutegravir, an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI) has been associated with weight gain, particularly in women and in subjects from sub‑Saharan Africa while doravirine, a non‑nucleosidic reverse transcriptase inhibitor, has been shown to have no effect on weight gain. ELDORADO is an international, multicenter, clinical research trial that aims to compare the efficacy of dolutegravir- and doravirine-based-regimens. In this trial, our team is responsible for the metabolic sub-study which aims to evaluate the impact of the two regimens on adipose tissue distribution and function.
Our team is recognized for its expertise in the field of adipose tissue biology, particularly in relation to HIV and antiretroviral molecules, through the study of both adipose tissue biopsies and cultured adipocytes.
Some publications on this subject are listed below.
The project will draw on innovative approaches in cell and molecular biology, utilising, in particular, biological samples from patients, advanced cellular models, and cutting‑edge technologies such as transcriptomics. The postdoctoral fellow will be in responsible for analyzing adipose tissue biopsies. He/She will analyze adipose tissue morphology (pathology and histology). He/She will comparatively evaluate gene expression by performing transcriptomic and RNA‑seq analyses in order to decipher the mechanisms and pathways involved in weight gain and adipose tissue dysfunction. The most relevant mechanisms can be confirmed, investigated and exploited using preclinical models.
