Description du poste

Postdoc – Investigating mechanical degradation in solid-state batteries

The LEPMI Laboratory of Electrochemistry and Physical Chemistry of Materials and Interfaces is offering a postdoctoral position as part of the PEPR Batteries program, to use ultrasound, dilatometry, and other sophisticated techniques to understand the mechanical failures of semiconductor batteries. In close collaboration with the LRCS – Laboratoire de Réactivité et Chimie des Solides.

Apply before october 8th 2025.

Overview

The project aims to evaluate mechanical stresses induced during cycling in all-solid-state systems (based on argyrodite and polymer electrolytes) and to identify the main driving forces (rate, composition of the electrode, etc.).

Responsibilities
  • Investigate mechanical degradation mechanisms in solid-state batteries using techniques such as ultrasound, dilatometry, and complementary methods.
  • Characterize electrodes obtained from all-solid-state systems with emission, mechanical measurements (e.g., indentation), electrochemical testing, and imaging techniques.
  • Correlate electrochemical performance with electrode microstructure and mechanical behavior, before and during cycling.
  • Collaborate with partners in the LIMASSE program, including ongoing work with related PhD students.
Context

This project is part of the PEPR “Li Metal Solid-State Batteries” program, coordinated by the ANR under France 2030 initiative and known as LIMASSE. The program brings together multiple CNRS units and CEA-Liten to address solid-state battery challenges, with a focus on Li/S technology and sulfur-based positive electrodes in solid electrolytes (Argyrodite or polymer).

Two PhD students (one at LEPMI, one at LRCS) are involved in Li/S technology within LIMASSE.

Qualifications
  • PhD in materials science or a related field.
  • Knowledge of electrochemistry, mechanics, and battery technologies is a strong asset.
