The ESRF is seeking a Post-doc on beamline ID10-SURF in the X-ray Diffraction and Scattering Group to drive research on membrane-mimicking systems at liquid interfaces using X-ray techniques. You will operate the beamline, support users, and develop your own program while collaborating with beamline scientists on advanced data analysis methods.

Applicants should have a PhD in Physics or Chemistry, strong instrumentation/dat analysis skills, and experience with scattering techniques.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or closely related field, obtained within the last 3 years.
  • Strong aptitude for instrumentation and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of surface science, liquid surfaces, soft matter, or solid-state physics.
  • Experience applying scattering techniques (X-ray or neutron) to soft matter or related systems; basic data modelling is essential.
  • Data analysis skills and programming experience in Python or MATLAB.
  • Ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary staff and facility users.

Responsabilités

  • Participate in the operation of the beamline and its in-house research programmes.
  • Provide support to external users as local contact.
  • Develop your own research programme focusing on interactions between biological membrane mimics at liquid interfaces and macromolecules.
  • Contribute to developing advanced data analysis strategies for surface X-ray scattering data and sample cells.
