Job summary

Inria Paris, within ALMAnaCH, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position to study editorial normalisation and its effect on Old French dialectometry within ROMAM². You will build gold data, align graphemic transcriptions with TEI-annotated corpora, and supervise annotation work.

The position is for 18 months, starting March 2027, under supervision of Thibault Clérice, with collaboration across NLP, digital humanities and philology.

Qualifications

• PhD in philology or historical linguistics is required.
• Strong knowledge of Old French is required.
• Training in palaeography and XML-TEI is required.
• Ability to do statistics and to program in Python or R.

Responsibilities

• Carry out research on ROMAM² theme outlined in the job description, developing ideas and validating methodology via corpus construction, experiments and analysis.
• Produce and release open, reusable datasets in XML-TEI using the TEI NCA sample with abbreviation annotation and gold PEN data.
• Work closely with the PhD candidate to support model development and evaluation.
• Collaborate with external experts and with the ANR Phil•IA project on philological and NLP evaluation frameworks.
• Supervise annotation work and ensure linguistic and editorial quality of gold data.
• Present work internally and externally in NLP and humanities venues; organize project workshops.
