European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) invites applications for a PhD- thesis position in physics/engineering. The project focuses on sub-nanosecond imaging of operating microelectronic devices by X-ray diffraction microscopy at ID01 beamline.

The successful candidate will collaborate with European groups to probe thermomechanical behaviour in SiGe(Sn) heterostructures. The role requires a background in X-ray diffraction or electronics, programming with Python, and a clear ability to

Qualifications

  • Background in X-ray diffraction or electronics desirable.
  • Programming knowledge (Python) would be an advantage.
  • Teamwork, clear communication and prioritisation are essential in a synchrotron environment.
  • Degree allowing enrolment for a PhD (such as MSc, Master 2 de Recherche, Laurea or equivalent). Minimum degree level may vary between universities.
  • Diploma must be provided at the time of application; official certificate may be required later for enrolment in a doctoral school.
  • Proficiency in English; B2 level proof required unless origin is a native-English-speaking country.
  • Mobility rule: candidates must not have resided or worked in host country in last 3 years.
  • All researchers recruited must be doctoral candidates, not yet holding a doctoral degree.
  • Must satisfy enrolment conditions for doctoral programme.

Responsabilités

  • Join the ID01 team and collaborate with European semiconductor groups.
  • Work on sub-nanosecond imaging of operating microelectronic devices by X-ray diffraction microscopy.
  • Advance 3D spatial and temporal strain–temperature imaging for next-generation devices.
  • Meet enrolment deadlines and contribute to the doctoral programme.
