Farfetch is seeking an Observability Engineer to join the Tech Platform team in Porto. You will build and sustain telemetry infrastructure, enabling scalable data pipelines for Logs, Metrics, Traces, Profiling and RUM.

You will reduce cognitive load for developers while ensuring high performance and resilience across the telemetry systems. You will collaborate with engineers to design robust observability platforms, implement data pipelines using OTEL, Fluentbit and Grafana, and help drive

Qualifications

  • Experience with observability tools and distributed systems.
  • Hands-on familiarity with telemetry infrastructure such as OpenTelemetry, Fluentbit, Victoria Metrics/Logs, and Grafana.
  • Exposure to cloud infrastructure and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Golang or Python).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; interest in infrastructure as code and automation.

Responsabilités

  • Design and implement scalable, high-availability observability infrastructure for core telemetry platforms.
  • Manage data pipelines and storage for Logs, Metrics, and Traces; ensure reliable ingestion, processing, and querying.
  • Build self-service capabilities for engineering teams and business units to enable autonomous analysis and investigation.
  • Monitor and maintain reliability of the observability stack, including Grafana and exporters.
  • Integrate Observability Frameworks (Audit, Logging, Monitoring) into the platform architecture.
  • Engage in technical discussions, learn from senior engineers, and promote a culture of learning and safety.

The Role

As an Observability Engineer in the Tech Platform team, you will help build and maintain the core of our telemetry ecosystem. Your mission is to support a scalable and reliable platform for analysis, detection, and investigation, empowering users across FARFETCH Business Units through comprehensive coverage of telemetry data.

In this role, you will be a valuable contributor dedicated to improving our observability infrastructure. You will work on building and optimizing data pipelines and storage solutions for Logs, Metrics, Traces, Profiling, and RUM, helping to reduce the cognitive load for developers while ensuring our telemetry systems maintain high levels of performance and resilience.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design and implementation of robust observability infrastructure, focusing on the scalability, high availability, and performance of our core telemetry platforms.
  • Support the management of data pipelines and storage, ensuring the reliable ingestion, processing, and querying of Logs, Metrics, and Traces using technologies like OpenTelemetry (OTEL), Fluentbit, and the Victoria ecosystem.
  • Help build self-service capabilities that empower engineering teams and FARFETCH Business Units to be autonomous in their analysis, detection, and investigation efforts.
  • Monitor and maintain the reliability and performance of our internal observability stack, ensuring systems like Grafana and various exporters remain robust.
  • Support the integration of Observability Frameworks (Audit, Logging, Monitoring, etc.), ensuring they fit seamlessly into the broader platform architecture.
  • Actively participate in technical discussions, learn from senior engineers, and share your knowledge to foster a culture of continuous learning and psychological safety within the team.
Qualifications and Skills
  • You have practical experience (or a strong foundational understanding) building, supporting, or maintaining observability tools and distributed systems.
  • You have hands‑on experience or familiarity with telemetry infrastructure tools such as OpenTelemetry, Fluentbit, Victoria Metrics/Logs, and Grafana.
  • You have exposure to cloud infrastructure and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes) and are eager to deepen your knowledge of observability architecture.
  • You understand the software development lifecycle and have experience with at least one programming language (e.g., Golang or Python) to help build tools, exporters, or automations.
  • You have strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with an interest in continuous system improvement, infrastructure as code, and automation.
  • You have good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with your team and other engineering stakeholders.
  • You understand the importance of data security, compliance, and cost‑efficiency as core pillars of a reliable observability platform.
