Airbus Helicopters SAS in Marseille seeks a Senior Avionics Manager to lead coherent avionics architecture and end-to-end development for helicopter variants. You will chair the Avionics Committee, arbitrate across domains and ensure design choices meet contractual, safety and maintainability goals.

Strong project management and cross-functional leadership are essential; English is required, French or other European languages a plus. Permanent on-site role.

  • Senior technical background with project management experience; avionics systems experience a plus.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical decision forums and coordinating with customers.

Responsabilités

  • Chair the Avionics Committee and provide technical leadership across avionics domains.
  • Validate avionics design choices against contractual requirements, planning, safety and maintainability objectives.
  • Ensure coherent avionics system architecture and cross-functional integration.
  • Oversee end-to-end development, qualification/certification and implementation for new helicopter variants.
  • Manage qualification/certification activities with internal teams and external customers/authorities.
  • Define and control development activities, interfaces and change impacts across PCs and suppliers.
  • Chair or participate in technical reviews and milestone gates (PDR, CDR, ERM).
  • Report status and risk analysis to Chief Engineering, Programme and Directoire dashboards.

Job Description:

NHIndustries is a French SAS Company, based in Aix-en-Provence. It is wholly owned by Airbus Helicopters, Leonardo and Fokker Aerostructures and provides the focal point for these companies for the NH90 program. NHI manages the design, the development and the entry to service of the NH90 for both NAHEMA (NATO Helicopter Management Agency) and export customers.

Mission:

Ensures coherent avionics architecture and system integration and leads Industry end-to-end development, qualification/certification and implementation process for the related avionics projects.

These work packages can differ in the scope: from the development of a new NH90 Variant to product maturity or evolution, correction of non-compliances, obsolescence management or any other engineering project.

Reporting:

The Avionic Manager & Avionic Committee Chairman reports to the Head of Engineering Projects and has an operational reporting line for qualification/certification activities to the Head of Qualification.

He/She escalates unresolved issues to Aircraft Chief Engineer or Programme governance.

Main responsibilities:
  • - Chair the Avionics Committee and
  • o provide technical leadership and arbitration across all avionics domains ensuring coherent avionics architecture and system integration;
  • o Validate avionics design choices against contractual requirements & planning, safety, and maintainability objectives;
  • o Ensure coherent avionics system architecture.
  • o Ensure global transversal view of all on-going avionic development activities and associated dependencies between PCs and contracts.
  • - Act as project manager for the end-to-end development, qualification/certification and implementation process on new helicopter variants or in production and the fleet;
  • o Manage qualification/certification activities including development and test within NHI and PCs, and in close coordination with the customers and authorities;
  • o Ensure clear definition and control of development activities, interfaces and change impacts across PCs and suppliers during offer and contract execution phase;
  • o Chair or participate in technical reviews and milestone gates such as but not limited to PDR, CDR, ERM;
  • o Escalates unresolved issues to Aircraft Chief Engineer or Programme governance.
  • o Report, and provide to Chief Engineering, Programme and Directoire regular status on qualification and engineering development activities in relevant dashboards/KPIs including identification of critical path, achievements and forecasted milestones as well as risk analysis.
  • o Manage technical closure of contractual non-compliances and support to Program Management for final closure.
Requirements:
Professional experience:
  • - Senior technical background (avionics systems will be a plus) with strong experience in project management as well as customer relations.
Technical competencies:
  • - Engineering, helicopter and avionics systems, project management.
  • - Planning, performance measurement and problem solving.
Soft skills/behaviors:
  • - Proven experience with certification/qualification
  • - Ability to lead cross-functional technical decision forums
  • - Strong communication and arbitration skills
Languages:
  • - Negotiation level in English.
  • - French, German or Italian would be a plus.
Tools/Software:
  • - Strong MS Suite skills: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project.
