Legal Counsel – Compliance

Paris La Défense, France | Group Scope

Welcome to the Team

At Nexans, our purpose is to electrify the future and contribute to a more sustainable world. As part of our Group Legal & Compliance function, you will join an international team at the heart of one of the world's leading electrification companies.

Reporting directly to the Group Compliance Director, you will play a strategic role in strengthening and evolving Nexans' global compliance framework, partnering with senior leaders across our Business Groups and corporate functions to manage legal, regulatory and ethical risks in an increasingly complex international environment.

This is an opportunity for an experienced compliance professional who combines strong legal judgement with exceptional business partnering skills, international exposure and the ability to lead change. We are looking for someone who has successfully led complex investigations and litigation support activities, influenced executive stakeholders, driven global compliance transformation initiatives and accelerated the adoption of Artificial Intelligence within compliance functions by embedding AI-enabled tools, processes and practical use cases that improve efficiency, effectiveness and business impact.

Your Impact
  • Leading complex litigation support, internal investigations, regulatory enquiries and other sensitive compliance matters across multiple jurisdictions, while driving the adoption of AI-enabled tools and innovative technologies that enhance the efficiency, quality and effectiveness of compliance investigations and related processes.
  • Driving the continued evolution of Nexans' global compliance programme across anti-bribery & corruption, competition law, trade sanctions, export controls and broader ethics & governance topics.
  • Partnering with senior business leaders to provide pragmatic, risk-based advice that enables commercial decision-making while protecting the business.
  • Leading strategic compliance transformation initiatives, embedding best-practice governance and strengthening compliance maturity across the Group.
  • Identifying opportunities to accelerate and modernise compliance operations through the implementation of AI-enabled tools, digital solutions and technology-driven process improvements that enhance productivity, risk management and decision-making.
  • Monitoring emerging legislation and regulatory developments relating to compliance, digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence to ensure Nexans remains aligned with evolving global expectations.
  • Designing and implementing practical compliance frameworks, policies and governance processes that are effective across diverse international businesses.
  • Developing and delivering engaging compliance communications, executive briefings and global awareness initiatives, including Compliance Week.
  • Supporting third-party due diligence, integrity reviews and compliance assessments involving customers, suppliers, distributors and strategic partners.
  • Working closely with Regional and Business Group Legal & Compliance teams to ensure consistent global implementation while recognising local regulatory requirements.
What We're Looking For
  • Approximately 8-15 years' experience within Legal, Ethics & Compliance or Regulatory functions in a multinational organisation or leading international law firm.
  • Significant experience leading complex litigation support, internal investigations, regulatory enquiries, enforcement actions or other high-profile compliance matters within an international environment.
  • Strong expertise across anti-bribery & corruption, sanctions, export controls, competition law and global compliance programmes.
  • Proven experience designing, implementing or transforming compliance frameworks within complex international organisations.
  • Demonstrated experience accelerating and embedding Artificial Intelligence within compliance functions through the implementation of AI-enabled tools, processes and practical use cases. Experience driving digital transformation and improving the effectiveness and efficiency of compliance operations through technology is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior executives and operate confidently within an international matrix organisation.
  • Excellent business judgement with the ability to balance legal risk, commercial priorities and operational realities.
  • Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills, with the credibility to engage effectively at all levels of the organisation.
  • Fluency in English is essential. French is highly desirable, with additional languages considered an advantage.
