AliExpress seeks a commercial legal counsel to join its growing European legal team. The attorney will be based in Paris and advise on EU expansion, commercial contracts, compliance, and cross-border trade. You will work with business teams and manage interactions with regulators.

The role requires 5–7 years of relevant in-house or comparable experience, fluency in English, and ideally additional EU language skills. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Qualified lawyer admitted to practice in an EU jurisdiction.
• In-house experience at e-commerce or multinational preferred.
• Solid understanding of cross-border trade and regulatory challenges.
• English proficiency required; French and/or Chinese a plus.

We seek to hire a legal counsel of commercial legal who will be a key member of the growing legal team supporting AliExpress in Europe. The attorney will be based in one of our European offices (Paris).

Job Description

• 1. Reporting to General Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel, AliExpress, advise on legal aspects of the platform’s international expansion of current and proposed new e-commerce offerings, with a focus on Europe.
• 2. Provide advice to business teams on legal aspects of the implementation of commercial agreements, business models and strategies, business operations, supply chain operations and product offerings.
• 3. Address and respond to document requests from overseas government regulators and law enforcement agencies.
• 4. Provide advice on platform compliance, local and cross border logistics, customs and tariffs, and product listing compliance matters.
• 5. Research local laws and regulations in the local jurisdictions and manage outside counsel.
• 6. Negotiate, draft, and review contracts, commercial agreements and policies.
• 7. Develop in-house legal tools and policies, and conduct trainings to business units.

Requirements

• 1. Qualified lawyer admitted to practice in an EU jurisdiction, with at least 5-7 years of relevant legal experience;
• 2. In-house legal experience at a leading e-commerce platform or multinational corporation preferred, with a solid understanding of e-commerce business models and key compliance challenges, and/or cross-border trade transactions (such as import/export, logistics, payments, financing, etc.);
• 3. Direct experience handling regulatory investigations, inquiries, or enforcement proceedings initiated by EU authorities preferred, particularly those conducted by customs, tax, and other relevant regulatory agencies;
• 4. English language proficiency is essential. Plus to have fluency in another European language (preferably French) and/or in Chinese (i.e., ability to hold business meetings, as well as reading and writing);
• 5. Highly responsible, independent, high integrity and team-oriented, with sound judgment and a proactive approach to risk management;
• 6. Ability to work with different locations across time-zones;
• 7. Sincere interest in technology, innovation and business. Strong commercial sense with solid foundation in legal training;
• 8. Open to international travel as may be necessary.
