Description du poste

Infrastructure & Network Engineer at Stellar Telecommunications

Stellar brings together professionals and experts from a range of exciting domains and technologies: telecommunications (cellular 4G/5G terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks, Wi-Fi and satellites), mobility (trains, aircraft, drones and road vehicles), and software for efficient data transmission, orchestration, network management, data collection, processing and analysis, including growing AI/ML capabilities.

Our products and solutions - the STEER® Software Suite, M2M/IoT solutions and the all-in-one GLOBBLE® offering - are transforming how people and vehicles experience connectivity while on the move by enabling seamless, ubiquitous and reliable broadband services. More information is available at https://www.stellar.tc.

Stellar is an ideal workplace for professionals who are eager to learn, challenge conventional approaches, explore practical innovations and take meaningful ownership in a supportive, collaborative, results-driven, international and professional environment.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Infrastructure & Network Engineer owns the operation, maintenance, security, observability and continuous improvement of Stellar's corporate and on-site IT infrastructure. The role provides hands-on technical ownership of the physical network, firewalls, Wi-Fi, virtualization hosts, shared storage, backup and restoration, monitoring platforms, and Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID services.

As Stellar scales, this position is expected to independently assess the current environment, identify operational and security risks, define improvement and remediation plans, and implement the agreed actions. The role combines strong systems and network engineering expertise with disciplined execution, documentation and a service-oriented mindset.

Scope note: day-to-day administration of guest operating systems and hosted applications remains outside the primary scope of the position. However, the engineer is expected to assess their infrastructure and security dependencies and work with the relevant owners to identify and implement required improvements.

Key Responsibilities

As Infrastructure & Network Engineer, you will operate, maintain, secure, monitor and improve Stellar's infrastructure across the following areas:

  • Network, Wi-Fi & Firewall Security

Own the availability, security, performance and configuration of Stellar's network, firewalling and Wi‑Fi across sites and network segments.

Operate and maintain network switches, routing and VLAN/trunk segmentation across corporate, customer, laboratory and infrastructure networks.

Operate and maintain Wi‑Fi access points and controllers, including Wi‑Fi 6, corporate and guest networks, and maintain the IPv4/IPv6 addressing plan and internal DNS.

Operate and maintain core, local and cloud firewalls, including filtering rules, DMZs, blocklists, remote-access VPNs and firewall high availability.

Manage the certificate lifecycle for internal services and FQDNs, and apply network and infrastructure security best practices.

  • Security Assessment & Risk Remediation

Perform structured security assessments of infrastructure, identity services, applications and service dependencies; identify vulnerabilities and operational risks; define remediation plans; and implement and track approved actions.

  • Identity & Access — Microsoft 365 / Microsoft Entra ID

Operate and maintain Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID, including identity and access management, role and privilege reviews, authentication controls, user lifecycle processes and security configuration.

Operate and maintain the virtualization host cluster, including hosts, high availability, heartbeat, cluster networking, virtual networks, SDN/VXLAN and cluster trunks, and contribute to the evolution of the architecture.

Operate and maintain NAS and storage volumes, including shares, NFS protocols, capacity, integrity and performance.

Implement, operate and supervise on-site and off-site backup solutions; define backup policies; execute regular restore tests; and maintain clear recovery procedures and evidence.

  • Monitoring & Observability

Design, implement and operate monitoring and observability using Zabbix, Grafana and Elastic Stack, complemented by SNMP and IPMI where appropriate.

Define service and infrastructure indicators, dashboards, alerting thresholds and escalation rules to anticipate incidents and support capacity, availability and performance management.

Handle requests and incidents through the ticketing platform, perform root‑cause analysis where appropriate, apply firmware updates and security patches, and resolve infrastructure issues.

Maintain accurate inventory, network diagrams, configurations, technical documentation, operating procedures and recovery documentation.

Produce a monthly activity report covering incidents, requests, availability, capacity, monitoring, backup and restore tests, patching, security risks and improvement actions.

Identify, prioritize and implement infrastructure improvement opportunities in alignment with operational, security, scalability and business requirements.

Overall, contribute positively to Stellar's collaborative, international and results-oriented culture.

Required Experience and Skills

At least five years of hands‑on experience in infrastructure and network engineering within a high‑growth company or startup environment, with direct accountability for day‑to‑day operations and service reliability.

Strong command of networking, including switching, VLANs, trunks, routing, IPv4/IPv6, DNS, Wi‑Fi and network segmentation.

CCNA certification, or a demonstrably equivalent level of networking knowledge and practical experience.

Strong experience with open‑source or equivalent firewalls, such as pfSense, including filtering, VPN, DMZ and high‑availability configurations.

Strong experience operating and maintaining a hypervisor and cluster environment, such as Proxmox or VMware, including high availability, cluster networking and virtual networking.

Strong experience operating NAS and shared storage platforms, including NFS, capacity management, integrity and performance monitoring.

Proven experience designing and operating backup and restoration solutions, including off‑site protection, recovery procedures and regular restore testing.

Extensive implementation and operational experience with Zabbix, Grafana and Elastic Stack, as well as SNMP and IPMI‑based monitoring. Strong proficiency in Linux (with excellent knowledge of Debian): Our entire infrastructure is based entirely on Debian. A very good understanding of the system, proficiency in network configuration, and the ability to analyze and read logs on Linux are essential for success in this role.

Strong infrastructure security knowledge, with the ability to assess an environment, identify vulnerabilities and risks, develop a pragmatic remediation plan and implement the agreed controls.

Strong operational experience with Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID, including identity, access, authentication and security configuration.

Rigor, method and documentation discipline, together with autonomy, responsiveness during incidents and a strong service mindset.

Professional proficiency in English.

Preferred Experience

Degree in IT, networks, cybersecurity or telecommunications at Bachelor's or Master's level.

CCNP certification or an equivalent advanced networking certification.

CompTIA Security+ certification or an equivalent security certification and demonstrated level of expertise.

Experience supporting ISO/IEC 27001 readiness, security governance, identity and access management, audits or compliance improvement programmes.

Experience improving infrastructure in a growing organization where processes, documentation and architecture are still being structured.

What We Offer
  • Strong technical ownership and autonomy over a growing infrastructure environment.
  • The opportunity to structure and improve infrastructure reliability, security, performance and scalability.
  • Direct and visible impact on the operational resilience of Stellar's teams, products and services.
  • Exposure to telecommunications, mobility, edge computing, connected systems and software environments.
  • The opportunity to contribute to security governance and future compliance and certification initiatives.
  • Continuous learning and professional development in a supportive, expert-driven team.
  • A collaborative, international and multicultural working environment.
