Viridien is seeking a motivated final-year student for a six-month internship in Earth data applications. You will apply physics, mathematics or geophysics knowledge to real-world seismic data problems, under guidance from our R&D teams.
Roles include exploring land imaging, elastic FWI, 4D processing, and advanced demultiple, with hands-on work on state-of-the-art workflows and large datasets. Starting January 2027, interns join a collaborative, international team.
Viridien (www.viridiengroup.com) is an advanced technology, digital and Earth data company that pushes the boundaries of science for a more prosperous and sustainable future. With our ingenuity, drive and deep curiosity we discover new insights, innovations, and solutions that efficiently and responsibly resolve complex natural resource, digital, energy transition and infrastructure challenges.
This six-month internship is designed for final-year physics, mathematics, and geophysics students eager to apply their theoretical knowledge and problem-solving skills to real-world Earth data.
We are a diverse and dynamic group of around hundred of operation and R&D geophysicists based in France with strong relation with our colleagues from UK, Singapore, Brazil, and USA.
We develop and apply state-of-the‑art signal processing, modeling, and imaging techniques using some of the world’s most advanced computing facilities to build high-resolution 3D images and models of the Earth’s subsurface. Beyond imaging, we transform seismic data into quantitative rock‑property models, helping our clients better understand the subsurface and make informed decisions.
You can expect to develop your skill in the fields of signal processing, modelling and imaging, and to gain awareness of wider developments in the fields of geoscience and data science.
You will have the opportunity to work onone of the following topics:
Full-waveform inversion (FWI) has become an essential tool for velocity model building and imaging tool in marine environments, but its application on land seismic data remains challenging. Land FWI is hindered by elastic wave phenomena and complex near‑surface conditions that generate energetic surface waves, scattering, mode conversions and multiples.
Within one of our teams dedicated to land seismic processing and imaging, during this internship you’ll be in charge of:
FWI is widely used for velocity model building in complex geology. However, until recently, most industrial applications used acoustic modeling to reduce computing costs. Moving to elastic FWI is a step forward not only because it allows improving P-wave velocity and imaging, but also because it provides access to elastic parameters (Vp, Vs and density) which are critical for reservoir characterization.
Within one of our teams dedicated to marine seismic processing and imaging during this internship you will be in charge of:
4D seismic processing and imaging are essential for monitoring how reservoirs change over time. By comparing seismic surveys acquired at different stages of production, they help to identify fluid movement, pressure variations, compaction, and possible subsidence. Careful processing is necessary to mitigate non‑repeatable noise while preserving genuine reservoir‑related signals. Moreover, accurate imaging places these changes at their correct geological locations.
Within one of our teams dedicated to processing and imaging of 4D monitoring data, you will oversee:
Land demultiple is a well‑known challenge for land seismic imaging. The difficulty is due to complex near‑surface conditions, irregular topography, variable source and receiver coupling, and high noise levels. These factors make multiple scattering difficult to separate from primary reflections using conventional demultiple methods and can then alter the quality of land seismic imaging. At Viriden, we work on improving the effectiveness of land demultiple for production projects.
During this internship, you will be part of one of our teams dedicated to land seismic processing and imaging. You’ll be in charge of:
At Viridien, we are committed to delivering a respectful, inclusive, and transparent recruitment experience.
Due to the high volume of applications we receive, we may not be able to provide individual feedback to every applicant. Only candidates whose qualifications closely match the role criteria will be contacted for an interview. We do, however, aim to share personalized feedback with those who progress to the first round of interviews and beyond.
We are also dedicated to ensuring that our hiring process accessible to all. If you require any reasonable adjustments to fully participate in the application or interview stages, please don’t hesitate to contact your recruiter directly.
We see things differently. Diversity fuels our innovation, we value the unique ways in which we differ, and we are committed to equal employment opportunities for all professionals.
