SeaOwl Group is seeking an experienced Safety Engineer to support the FPSO project by coordinating the Safety Engineering scope during detailed design, procurement, construction and commissioning. You will report to the FPSO Technical Safety Lead and provide guidance to the Engineering Contractor on safety disciplines.

Based in France with long rotations to Singapore and Geoje, the role requires fluent English, strong communication, and a proactive, rigorous mindset.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience, including 8+ years in Safety/HSE design within oil and gas projects, FPSO experience preferred.
  • Fluent in English; French is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Proactive, anticipatory, and rigorous approach to safety design and delivery.

Responsabilités

  • Coordinate Safety Engineering deliverables across detailed design, procurement, construction and commissioning phases.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to the Engineering Contractor on all safety-related aspects of FPSO design.
  • Ensure compliance with SOR, Basic Engineering documents, project specs, procedures, and international codes/standards; manage schedule and budget.
  • Coordinate TRA studies, safety reviews (HAZIDs/HAZOPs), and design safety integration across disciplines.
  • Report to the FPSO Technical Safety Lead; liaise with head office specialists and ensure lessons learned are captured.

Description

Missions / Service Dimensions
  • Assist Technical Safety Lead to coordinate the Safety Engineering scope and deliverables of the project during the detailed design, procurement, construction and commissioning phases.
  • Reporting to the FPSO Technical Safety Lead, the job holder is responsible for providing guidance and technical support to the Engineering Contractor on all aspects of FPSO Safety Engineering.
  • Ensure that, for the safety discipline and during the detailed engineering phase, the SOR, Basic Engineering documents, Project Specifications and Procedures, as well as applicable international codes and standards, are properly implemented and complied with for the design and construction of the FPSO.
  • Perimeter: Topsides and Hull.
  • Promote & comply in all activities with applicable safety instructions and other company HSE rules.
Activities
  • Detailed Design Review: Review, follow up, and supervise all safety-related engineering deliverables, including safety calculation notes, plot plans and layouts, safety logic and control philosophies, and related documentation. Ensure that all documents comply with project specifications, classification society rules, applicable international standards, and regulatory requirements. Ensure that the required scope of work is delivered within schedule and budget. Issue comments in due time, explain them to the Contractor, and follow up on their effective implementation.
  • Safety Studies and Audits: Follow-up all necessary safety studies, reports and audits and, where applicable, ensure their recommendations are implemented.
  • Technological Risk Assessment (TRA): Coordinate the development of the Technological Risk Assessment (TRA) performed by third-party consultants. Ensure that the TRA adequately evaluates risks to personnel, environment, and assets, and demonstrates that risks are reduced to a level that is ALARP and acceptable to the COMPANY.
  • Technical Queries: Review, assess, and propose responses to technical queries related to the safety discipline.
  • Design Safety Integration: Ensure that all safety and personnel protection measures are considered and integrated during the design phase of the project.
  • Interfaces Between Disciplines: Interface with other engineering disciplines - mainly Process, Structures, HVAC, Hull, and SURF - and keep the Technical Safety Leader informed, in order to achieve the best technical trade-offs between safety, operability, and other project constraints.
  • Discipline Meetings: Participate in discipline meetings with Contractor counterparts to follow up engineering progress, clarify and explain comments, provide technical guidance, and support issue resolution.
  • Package / Project meetings and reviews: Participate in design reviews, interface meetings, HAZIDs / HAZOPs / technical reviews, constructability reviews, workshops… during the engineering, construction, integration and installation phases.
  • Safety Reviews Coordination: Ensure that HAZID, HAZOP, etc., are planned and executed at the appropriate time, and that the methodology and procedures for these studies are produced and approved prior to their commencement. Monitor close-out of all safety-related action items from the various safety reviews.
  • Reporting: report to the FPSO Technical Safety Lead on discipline-related matters, including key technical issues, areas of concern, engineering progress, and quality. Propose mitigation or corrective measures when deviations or risks are identified.
  • Technical Support: Provide support concerning safety issues to the FPSO Technical Safety Lead and FPSO Engineering Leader.
  • Lessons Learned: Ensure lessons learnt from previous project is well integrated in the project for his/her discipline. Contribute to the project’s lessons learned by liaising with head office specialists on a regular basis (regular meetings) and issuing a close out report related to the forementioned activities.
Context & Environment
  • The Venus FPSO will operate in ultra-deepwater at roughly 3,000 m and is designed to process 160,000 bbl./d of oil with advanced systems to manage large volumes of associated gas, which will be re-injected to maintain reservoir pressure. The unit will be permanently spread-moored using a 16-line mooring system, engineered to ensure station-keeping in relatively harsh Atlantic conditions. The development includes up to 40 subsea wells tied back to the FPSO via the subsea architecture.

  • Duration: 1 year to 4 years after FPSO contract Award

  • Location: Between 1 and 2 years in Paris – France, up to 18 months in Singapore, up to 18 months in Geoje – South Korea.

Qualifications & Experience Required
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience, including at least 8 years of experience specialized in Safety / HSE Design within oil and gas projects, with prior experience in FPSOs.
  • Fluent in English, French is a plus.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Candidate shall show proactive behavior, anticipation and rigor.
