Job summary

Malt is seeking a seasoned Financial Business Partner to support the CTO and CPO, driving financial visibility and rigorous IFRS-compliant controls. You will lead capex governance, PMO financials, and cost optimization for software development and infrastructure within a European, collaborative environment.

You will partner with Engineering leads, ensure robust budgeting, and build strategic business cases to influence product decisions, while maintaining strong cross-functional relationships

Qualifications

• Strong IFRS knowledge, including IAS 38 and project accounting rules.
• Ability to build complex financial models for forecasting, scenarios, and business cases.
• Experience partnering with Engineering/Product to challenge assumptions and optimize budgets.

Responsibilities

• Lead annual budgeting and quarterly rolling forecasts for R&D and IT, with monthly variance analysis.
• Conduct financial gatekeeping, build business cases, and evaluate NPV/IRR/ROI for key initiatives.
• Define IAS 38 capitalization policies and manage capex / asset lifecycles with month-end closure coordination.
• Own and maintain the Pigment app as a financial tool for reporting and control.

To act as the primary Financial Business Partner for the CTO and CPO, providing financial visibility, challenging investment assumptions, managing the end-to-end lifecycle of Capital Expenditures (Capex) and operating expenses for software development and infrastructure, ensuring strict application of IFRS framework at Malt.

Key responsibilities

• Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the annual budget and quarterly rolling forecasting cycles for the R&D and IT departments, including monthly variance analysis.

• Financial Gatekeeping, Business Partnering & Business Cases:

  • Evaluate, under strict IFRS rules, new R&D phases and IT projects by calculating NPV, IRR, ROI, and Payback Periods to guide Product Committee decisions.

  • Partner with Engineering Leads to optimize headcount/freelancing spend, and track R&D Intensity/Innovation Effectiveness ratios.

• Capex & Capitalization Management:

  • Define and enforce IAS 38 capitalization policies (IFRS guidelines), track hardware/software lifecycles, and coordinate month-end closing with Accounting.

  • Audit the internal time-tracking system to ensure accurate Project ID tagging, defending R&D Tax Credits and Capitalization audits and ensure strict IFRS compliance.

• Tool Ownership: Own and build a dedicated Pigment app.

About you

• Experience: Minimum 5 years of progressive experience, specifically focused on R&D and project controlling.

• Accounting Knowledge: Strong IFRS knowledge, practical grasp of IAS 38 (Intangible Assets), and project accounting rules.

• Financial Modeling & Business Partnering: High proficiency in building complex financial models for forecasting, business cases, and scenario analysis (NPV, IRR) , combined with excellent interpersonal skills to challenge assumptions collaboratively across technical and product departments.

• Technical Tools: Advanced Excel, dashboarding solutions, and FP&A software (Pigment is a major plus; ERP knowledge advantageous).

• Languages: Fully fluent in both French and English to operate in an international European environment.

• Adaptability: Comfortable managing multiple priorities and milestone-tracking in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment.
