Job summary

UNESCO’s Division of Internal Oversight Services (IOS) seeks a Director to lead evaluation, internal audit, and investigations, ensuring alignment with international standards and UNESCO’s mission. The role drives governance, risk management, and program effectiveness while safeguarding organizational interests.

The Director will set the annual oversight work plan, manage multiple portfolios, and provide impartial, strategic advice to the Director-General, reporting directly to the DG.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of progressive professional experience in audit, evaluation, value-for-money assurance, and internal investigations.
• 7+ years of international-level experience in the public sector or international organizations.
• Senior management experience in audit or evaluation functions within international or national public sector organizations.
• Knowledge of current methodologies and standards in auditing, evaluation, and investigations.
• Demonstrated leadership in relevant professional networks.

Responsibilities

• Develop and oversee an annual risk- and priority-based oversight work plan.
• Manage an internal audit portfolio focused on governance, risk management, and internal controls.
• Guide independent evaluations to enhance program effectiveness and efficiency.
• Lead investigations into alleged fraud, misconduct, or mismanagement.
• Foster accountability and professionalism within IOS and stay abreast of strategic issues.
• Submit an annual IOS report to UNESCO's governing bodies.
