The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) is seeking a Data Management Supervisor to join its headquarters in Sophia Antipolis, France on a permanent contract. You will lead the Clinical Data Management Service, ensuring data quality, governance, and lifecycle management across ESC registries.

You will drive innovative data science initiatives, collaborate with international partners, and strengthen data capabilities to support ESC’s mission to improve cardiovascular care and research.

Qualifications

  • Masters or PhD with 6+ years in data management or related field.
  • 5+ years leading international data projects.
  • 2+ years line management experience.
  • Proficient in data management of observational health data.
  • Familiar with eCFR and CTMS solutions.
  • Awareness of EHDS and data regulations.
  • Experience with SNOMED, OMOP, HL7 FHIR.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and French.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage priorities.

The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) is seeking a Data Management Supervisor to join its team on a permanent contract (CDI), starting as soon as possible, at its headquarters in Sophia Antipolis, France.

Role Overview

The Clinical Data Management Service is part of the ESC Registries Department within the Data Science Division. It is responsible for collecting and managing patient-level data to evaluate the real‑world implementation of ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines, assess the quality of cardiovascular care, and support the ESC's mission to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease.

The Data Management Supervisor combines team leadership with strategic and operational responsibilities. The role is instrumental in ensuring the quality, integrity, and usability of registry data throughout the entire data lifecycle, from study set‑up and documentation through database closure, archiving, and secondary data access. The position also plays a key role in advancing ESC data capabilities through innovative data science and clinical informatics initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and oversee the Data Management team, ensuring that project timelines, budgets, quality standards, and departmental objectives are consistently achieved.
  • Organise, implement, and continuously improve Data Management processes and procedures across the Registries portfolio to maximise operational efficiency and data quality.
  • Ensure the collection, validation, standardisation, and governance of high‑quality data across GRASP registries, the EuroHeart network, and other ESC registries programmes.
  • Monitor and report on Data Management activities across the full registry portfolio, ensuring compliance with agreed timelines, priorities, and Data Management processes, in close collaboration with ESC managers, task forces, and committee members.
  • Develop and implement innovative data management methodologies, coding strategies, and AI‑enabled approaches to strengthen registry science and enhance data quality, interoperability, and analytical readiness.
  • Drive initiatives supporting the ESC's data strategy and alignment with the European Health Data Space (EHDS), enabling secure, scalable, and compliant reuse of registry data for research and evidence generation.
  • Lead the implementation of innovative Clinical Informatics and Data Science projects related to patient data collection and analysis, including:
    • Electronic Health Record (EHR) and registry data linkage;
    • Federated data analysis infrastructures;
    • Development and maintenance of health data warehouses;
    • Virtual biobank initiatives and other advanced data platforms.
  • Promote data harmonisation, interoperability, and modern data standards to support cross‑registry collaboration and future‑ready data ecosystems.
Profile

Hard Skills

  • Masters or PhD with 6+ years relevant experience or equivalent level of qualification in Data Management, Data Quality, Healthcare Data Science, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Clinical Research, Non‑interventional studies, Epidemiology or a related field.
  • Min 5 years experience in management of patient‑level health data, significant experience in international projects & multi‑stakeholder projects.
  • Min 2 years with Line management experience (direct hierarchical reports).
  • Proficiency in advanced data management of observational patient research and registries.
  • Familiar with eCFR and CTMS solutions.
  • Familiar with EHDS requirements and other meaningful data related regulations.
  • Experience in data standardisation frameworks (e.g. SNOMED, OMOP, HL7 FHIR).
  • Understanding of federated data infrastructures and secure data environments (TRE/SDE).
  • Experience with multi‑stakeholder projects (multi‑centric, international, EU‑funded consortium projects ecosystem, academic partnerships).
  • Excellent professional English and French, written and spoken.
  • Demonstrated AI literacy and implementation to support Clinical Data Management activities.
  • Leadership and team coordination skills.
  • Problem‑solving, attention to detail and quality & compliance orientation.
  • Strong analytical skills and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities under strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to embrace changing organizational needs, shifting priorities, and evolving responsibilities.
  • Client service orientation and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships with diverse constituents and work across teams, departments, and functions.
  • Strong communication and stakeholders management skills, including interactions with scientific committees and external partners.
  • Ability to self‑initiate, advance work with minimal direction, and follow through on projects.
