Job summary

INFICON is seeking an Application Engineering & Customer Support specialist in Grenoble, France. You will define measurement requirements, conduct feasibility studies, and troubleshoot vacuum systems for diverse industries.

You will install, optimize, and support solutions, analyze data, and develop proofs-of-concept. Frequent customer interactions, demonstrations, and collaboration with Sales are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters in a technical discipline as listed
  • 3–7 years of experience in vacuum technology or related industrial roles
  • Solid knowledge of vacuum tech, pressure measurement, and instrumentation
  • Experience working directly with customers preferred
  • Fluent in English; other languages advantageous

Responsibilities

  • Understand customer processes and define measurement requirements for INFICON solutions
  • Perform application assessments and feasibility studies and troubleshoot systems
  • Support installation, commissioning, and optimization of solutions
  • Analyze data to identify root causes of vacuum/process issues
  • Develop demonstrations, proofs-of-concept, and test plans
  • Collaborate with Sales and technical teams to qualify opportunities
  • Deliver technical presentations and product demonstrations
  • Create technical proposals and support solution positioning
  • Lead or contribute to customer projects from requirements to deployment
  • Coordinate with Service during installation and commissioning

Job Description

Application Engineering & Customer Support

  • Understand customer processes and technical challenges; define measurement requirements and recommend appropriate INFICON solutions
  • Perform application assessments, feasibility studies and technical troubleshooting—including systems using vacuum measurement (capacitance manometers, Pirani gauges, cold/hot cathode instruments), leak detection equipment (helium, hydrogen/forming gas), residual gas analysis (RGA), and thin-film monitoring technologies
  • Support customers with installation, commissioning, and optimization of solutions
  • Analyze measurement data to identify root causes of vacuum and process issues
  • Develop application-specific demonstrations, proofs-of-concept, and test plans
  • Collaborate with Sales, KAMs, and SAMs to identify and qualify technical opportunities
  • Participate in customer visits, technical discussions, and RFQ responses
  • Deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations, and proof-of-concepts
  • Develop technical and commercial value propositions based on customer needs
  • Create technical proposals and support solution positioning
  • Lead or contribute to customer projects from initial requirements through successful deployment
  • Define acceptance criteria and application KPIs
  • Coordinate with Service and internal teams during installation and commissioning
  • Follow up post-deployment to ensure customer satisfaction and identify upsell opportunities
  • Document application knowledge and create reusable application guides and troubleshooting procedures

Technical Expertise Development

  • Build and maintain deep expertise across the vacuum portfolio, including vacuum fundamentals, pressure measurement, leak detection, RGA, pumping systems, and coating applications
  • Share customer insights with Product Management and Business Units
  • Identify recurring customer challenges and propose new applications or solutions
  • Develop internal and external training materials; coach colleagues and customers
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Vacuum Technology, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • Typically 3–7 years of experience in vacuum technology, instrumentation, process engineering, applications engineering, service engineering or a related industrial environment
  • Solid knowledge of vacuum technology, vacuum system design and vacuum processes
  • Understanding of pressure measurement principles and vacuum instrumentation (including gauges, controllers and measurement systems)
  • Experience working directly with customers is strongly preferred
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken; additional languages are an asset
  • Experience in an international environment is an advantage
  • Willingness to travel regularly (30%) within EMEA
