Job description

We are looking for a Test & Equipment Engineer to join Elmery’s growing technology team in Helsinki. This is strongly a hands‑on engineering role for someone who enjoys solving practical problems, working with equipment and turning ideas into working solutions.

In this role, you will design, build, operate and improve equipment and test setups used across Elmery’s technology development. You will work closely with testing and experimental development, helping turn technical needs and laboratory-scale concepts into practical, reliable and repeatable solutions. The work involves mechanical systems as well as elements of electrical engineering, instrumentation and automation.

This is a broad and practical role, and your tasks will vary depending on what the team needs. We are looking for someone who is comfortable taking on both new technical challenges and everyday practical tasks – and who is willing to learn, adapt and get things done.

Join Elmery and make it turn technology development into practical and scalable solutions for more sustainable metal recovery.

Company: Elmery Oy

Starting date: As soon as possible or as agreed

Employment: Full‑time, permanent, 37.5 h/week

About the role

Elmery is a Finnish technology company developing patented metal recovery technology to help refineries improve metal circularity, cost efficiency and sustainability.

As a Test & Equipment Engineer, you will work on the design, construction, ensuring capacity of equipment used in testing and technology development. Your responsibilities will cover both developing new equipment and ensuring the reliability, availability and safe operation of existing systems.

This is not a desk-based engineering role. Depending on the day, you might assemble equipment, troubleshoot a technical issue, work with instrumentation or automation, support experimental testing or take care of routine maintenance. We value people who take initiative, enjoy working with their hands and are willing to tackle unfamiliar tasks.

You will also support experimental and laboratory testing when needed. Previous laboratory education or advanced analytical experience is not required.

Most of the work takes place at our facilities in Kivihaka, Helsinki. The role may also include occasional international travel to customer sites for testing and technology deployment.

What you will be doing
  • Taking end-to-end ownership of equipment, from design, construction and commissioning to operation, maintenance and continuous improvement
  • Developing experimental concepts into practical, resource-efficient and scalable solutions, working across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and automation systems
  • Ensuring equipment reliability, availability and fitness for purpose through preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, spare parts planning and supplier coordination
  • Supporting laboratory and pilot-scale testing, including test preparation, execution and practical troubleshooting
  • Identifying and implementing equipment improvements, applying lessons learned and documenting technical modifications and results
  • Ensuring safe and efficient equipment operation while working closely with researchers, technicians and other members of the technology team
What we are looking for
  • Relevant engineering or technical education
  • Practical experience in equipment development, prototyping, testing, maintenance or a related technical field
  • Broad technical understanding of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and automation systems – you do not need to be a specialist in all of them
  • Confidence in working with tools and equipment and turning technical ideas into working solutions
  • Willingness to take on unfamiliar tasks and adapt to changing priorities
  • A systematic approach to work, with an understanding of equipment safety and risk assessment
  • Good written and spoken English; Finnish is an advantage
  • Willingness to travel internationally when required

We also value experience in industrial environments, machine design, control systems, process engineering or metallurgy. We don't expect you to know everything from day one.

You will succeed in this role if you are
  • Hands‑on and proactive. You enjoy taking ideas into practice and are comfortable getting started and doing the work yourself.
  • Versatile and curious. You are willing to take on different kinds of tasks, from unfamiliar technical challenges to routine work, and learn as you go.
  • Practical and resource‑conscious. You look for solutions that work reliably without unnecessary complexity and are sensible to build, maintain and reproduce.
  • A team player. You work well alongside people with different technical backgrounds and are ready to contribute where your skills and help are needed.
What we offer
  • The opportunity to help develop patented technology into world‑class products for international markets
  • A varied engineering role where you can follow ideas from early experiments to working technical solutions
  • Opportunities to develop your skills across equipment development, instrumentation, automation and technology scale‑up
  • Freedom and responsibility to solve real technical problems and see the results of your work
  • A motivated and international team working towards more sustainable metal recovery
