Job summary

Aiven in Finland is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer (Python) to join the platform team and transform leading open-source technologies into seamless cloud services. You will help improve scalability, reliability, and enterprise features of the Aiven cloud platform.

The role covers backend systems, distributed infrastructure, and platform security, with opportunities to mentor juniors and contribute to architecture and product roadmaps. Hybrid work is supported across global teams.

Qualifications

• Senior Python development experience with API design/refactoring.
• Experience with cloud provider APIs (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Familiarity with IaC and container orchestration.
• Strong Linux networking and Linux in dev/prod.
• Hands-on with managed OSS like Kafka, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, OpenSearch, ClickHouse.

Responsibilities

• Lead API design improvements and refactoring to boost platform functionality and performance.
• Write maintainable Python code, release features, and monitor in production.
• Conduct peer code reviews and contribute to technical discussions across teams.
• Contribute to planning, architecture, and product roadmaps for the platform.
• Ensure strong unit and integration tests across backend services.
• Advocate for quality, security, and performance improvements.
• Mentor junior engineers to grow technical skills.
