Job summary

Aiven is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our platform team in Helsinki. You will design and refactor APIs, write robust Python code, and push features to production on our cloud data platform.

You’ll work across backend systems, distributed infrastructure, and platform security to improve scalability and reliability. As a senior contributor, you will mentor juniors, participate in architectural planning, and uphold strong testing and security practices while collaborating with teams

Qualifications

• Strong Python development experience.
• Proficient in API design and refactoring.
• Experience with cloud provider APIs (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Familiarity with IaC and container orchestration.
• Deep Linux networking and operating systems knowledge.
• Hands-on with open-source data services (Kafka, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, OpenSearch, ClickHouse).
• Understanding of distributed systems and microservices patterns.
• Experience running software in production with observability.
• Solid background in security principles for backend systems.
• Ability to write robust automated unit and integration tests.
• Fluent in English, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Advance API design improvements and refactoring for platform features.
• Write high-quality Python code, deploy features to production, and monitor their health.
• Perform peer code reviews and contribute to technical discussions across teams.
• Contribute to system architecture, feature design, roadmaps, and backlog planning.
• Maintain strong unit and functional test coverage in backend services.
• Champion software quality, platform security, and performance improvements.
• Mentor junior engineers to promote best practices.
