Job summary

ABB Oy, High Power division, in Helsinki, Finland, seeks a Senior Design Engineer (Power Electronics). The role involves designing and validating main circuit and power electronics for frequency converters within a hybrid work model.

Senior Design Engineer (Power Electronics)

Your role and responsibilities

We are looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join our team at ABB Oy, High Power division. High Power division is further investing in drive system development in different fields of applications and thus strengthening its design organization. Look no further - we have an interesting opportunity for you! You will get to work with our power electronics design group.

The role is located in Pitäjänmäki, Helsinki, Finland.

Members of the power electronics design group are responsible for main circuit and power electronics design in various product development projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to deep-dive with advanced technology in demanding projects as a part of a highly skilled team. Project related responsibilities will be agreed based on your background and experience. In addition, you will have the opportunity to further your career in a global company.

The work model for the role is: hybrid

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Designing, dimensioning and verifying the main circuit and power electronics of frequency converters
• Specifying verification tests and analyzing results
• Creating design documentation
• Research of new components and power electronics topologies
• Co-operating with subcontractors and with other design disciplines (e.g. mechanics, electronics, verification)
• Mentoring of younger colleagues

Qualifications for the role

• M.Sc. in power electronics or in a related field
• Relevant work experience in product development project(s)
• Knowledge of electrical drives' AC-to-DC, DC-to-AC and DC-to-DC topologies
• Deep understanding of power semiconductors and inductive components
• Demonstrated ability in filter design
• Proficiency in simulation tools (e.g. Simulink)
• Fluent communication in English, both written and spoken. Skills in Finnish are an advantage in the role.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
