Job summary

ABB Oy, High Power division in Helsinki, is seeking a Design Engineer to join the power electronics design group. The role is based in Pitäjänmäki with a hybrid work model.

You will design, dimension and verify main circuits for frequency converters, research new components and topologies, and document results while collaborating with other design disciplines. English fluency is required; Finnish is a plus.

Qualifications

• Degree in power electronics or related field.
• Experience with main circuit components of electrical drives.
• Proven product development experience in power electronics.
• Experience with simulation tools such as Simulink.
• Proficient in English; Finnish is a plus.

Design Engineer (Power Electronics)

Your role and responsibilities

We are looking for a Design Engineer to strengthen our team at ABB Oy, High Power division. High Power division is further investing in drive system development into different fields of applications and thus strengthening its design organization. Look no further - we have an interesting opportunity for you! You will get to work with our power electronics design group and will be located in Pitäjänmäki, Helsinki, Finland.

Members of the power electronics design group are responsible for main circuit and power electronics design in various product development projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to deep-dive with world-class technology in demanding projects as a part of highly skilled team. Project related responsibilities will be agreed based on your background and experience. In addition, you will have the opportunity to further your career in a global company.

The work model for the role is: hybrid

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Designing, dimensioning and verifying the main circuit and power electronics of frequency converters
• Specifying verification tests and analyzing results
• Creating design documentation
• Research of new components and topologies
• Co-operating with subcontractors and with other design disciplines (e.g. mechanics, electronics, verification)

Qualifications for the role

• M.Sc. in power electronics or in a related field
• Knowledge of electrical drives' main circuit components
• Ability to demonstrate your experience in product development of power electronics
• Experience in simulation tools (e.g. Simulink)
• Fluent communication in English, both written and spoken. Finnish is a plus.
• Knowledge of industrial electrical installations, wind turbine drivetrains and/or DC grids is beneficial
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
