Job summary

Nordec is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join the Nordic Design Service team in Vaasa or Peräseinäjoki, Finland. You will ensure robust frame design processes, drive efficiency, and deliver standardized, high‑quality solutions across projects.

You will mentor Design Engineers, coordinate with factories and sites, and contribute to skills development within the team. Fluency in Finnish/Swedish/English is expected.

Qualifications

• MSc or BSc degree in engineering or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience in designing steel structures.
• Strong CAD design and 3D modelling skills.
• Good Tekla Structures modelling and/or design skills.
• Experience in coordinating design work in project environments.

Responsibilities

• Carry out independent design engineering tasks in steel frame projects.
• Follow up project schedules, design hour usage and targets.
• Coordinate and mentor design engineers within the frame team.
• Communicate with factories, sites and stakeholders to identify practical design solutions.

We are looking for a

Senior Design Engineer

to join our Nordic Design Service team in one of our offices in Vaasa or Peräseinäjoki, Finland. In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring successful frame design processes in our projects and supporting Nordec’s competitiveness and profitability through high-quality, efficient and standardized design solutions.

As a Senior Design Engineer you are responsible for

• Carrying out independent design engineering tasks in steel frame projects.

• Following up project schedules, design hour usage and progress against agreed targets.

• Coordinating and mentoring Design Engineers and supporting smooth cooperation within the frame team.

• Communicating actively with factories, sites and project stakeholders to identify practical and efficient design solutions.

• Developing project-specific design solutions into standardized solutions that can be used across future projects.

• Contributing to the development of design skills, methods and tools within the frame team.

• Supporting successful design coordination with adjoining structures and project interfaces where needed.

To succeed in this role, we expect you to have

• MSc or BSc degree in engineering or another relevant technical field.

• At least 5 years of experience in designing steel structures.

• Strong CAD design and 3D modelling skills.

• Good Tekla Structures modelling and/or design skills.

• Experience in coordinating design work in project environments.

• Ability to work independently, take ownership and manage priorities in a project-driven environment.

• Good communication and cooperation skills with internal and external stakeholders.

• Language skills in Finnish, Swedish and English.

Additional experience in wider responsibility areas, mentoring, design leadership, networks or stakeholder coordination is considered an advantage.
