Job summary

Smartly is building a governed data platform to enable scalable data sharing across product services, analytics, and AI/ML. We seek a Senior Data Platform Engineer to shape an early platform, tackle production problems, and create a standard path for publishing and consuming shared data.

You will own design and rollout of platform services, Debezium-CDC pipelines, and DataHub integration while collaborating with product, infra, data engineering, and AI/ML teams to drive safe, reusable data at

Qualifications

• Production experience in platform or data-heavy environments.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems: reliability, idempotency, replay.
• Hands-on with PostgreSQL or relational DBs, including schema design.
• Experience with Kafka, CDC, Debezium, or related data-movement tech.
• Experience building tools used by engineers (CLIs, internal platforms).
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and cloud platforms.
• Ability to turn architecture into practical increments and decisions.
• Clear written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Design and build platform services, tools, and workflows for contract-driven data publishing.
• Create production path for PostgreSQL publishing tables, Debezium, Kafka, and cataloging.
• Develop GitOps workflows for contracts, schemas, ownership, lifecycle, and runtime state as code.
• Build tooling to provide fast feedback before data publication.
• Define data product modeling, publishing contracts, schema evolution, and lineage.
• Operate and improve the CDC runtime model and Kubernetes workloads.
• Integrate platform metadata into DataHub to aid discovery.
