Huawei Finland R&D in Tampere seeks a Principal/Senior Camera Systems Innovation Engineer to drive next-generation mobile imaging technologies. You will lead system-level innovations in camera hardware, focusing on modules, optics, and imaging solutions, collaborating across R&D and with universities and partners.

This role offers a bridge between cutting-edge research and product-oriented innovation, with impact on real-world imaging tech and opportunities to shape future camera systems.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Optical Engineering, Photonics, Imaging Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
• 3–5 years of relevant industry experience in smartphone cameras, camera modules, imaging optics, or consumer imaging systems.
• Strong understanding of camera system architecture and interaction between optics, sensors, actuators, mechanics, electronics, ISP, and imaging algorithms.
• Experience developing or evaluating camera technologies from concept to prototyping and validation.
• Ability to make system-level trade-offs across image quality, module size, power consumption, reliability, cost, and manufacturability.
• Excellent innovation, problem-solving, collaboration, and technical communication skills, with English proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Drive system-level innovation for next-generation smartphone camera hardware.
• Explore technologies and opportunities in camera modules, optical systems, and mobile imaging architectures.
• Develop innovative imaging concepts and evaluate feasibility, value, and product impact.
• Lead or contribute to camera innovation projects from research to prototyping and validation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary R&D teams including optics, actuators, modules, imaging algorithms, sensors, mechanics, and system engineering.
• Build and manage research collaborations with universities, technology partners, and industry organizations.
• Monitor technology trends in mobile imaging and translate developments into actionable research directions.
• Provide technical insight and system-level guidance for strategic camera technology planning.
