Job summary

Safegrid – A G&W Electric Company is seeking an experienced Senior Backend Developer to design and build robust, scalable backend systems in an international environment. Are you an experienced backend developer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, building reliable systems, and working with talented people?

We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join our software development team and play an important role in designing and developing robust, scalable, and maintainable backend solutions.

In this role, you will work with demanding software systems in an international environment. You will have the opportunity to influence technical decisions, contribute to architecture and implementation, and work closely with other experienced professionals. The position is based in Turku, Finland, with a flexible hybrid working model. We expect you to work from the Turku office at least two days per week, while the remaining days can be worked remotely.

What we are looking for

• Extensive professional software development experience, typically 10 years or more, with strong senior-level expertise in Java and backend development
• A solid understanding of software design and the ability to build high-quality, maintainable solutions
• Ability to work effectively in English, as it is used as the daily working language
• Good knowledge of relational databases and SQL
• Experience with PostgreSQL and PL/pgSQL
• Experience with CI/CD practices and automated software delivery pipelines
• The ability to work independently, take ownership, and solve complex technical problems
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• A willingness to share knowledge, discuss technical solutions openly and constructively, and help the whole team succeed
• Ability to work from the Turku office at least two days per week

What would be a plus

• Experience in data engineering, including data processing, data pipelines, or working with large volumes of data
• Experience in developing IoT solutions, including MQTT-based communication and messaging architectures
• Experience with Vue.js, React, or frontend development in general
