Job summary

Mapbox is hiring for an AI/ML engineer who will own the technical design and delivery of multi-component AI systems. You will work across teams, defining how products should work, building evaluation systems, and ensuring reliable operation from data ingestion to model calls.

You will build data pipelines, track external datasets, and design feedback loops to improve products. The role requires strong Python/TypeScript skills, data engineering capability, and on-call readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in STEM and 5+ years software ownership.
• 2+ years shipping LLM-backed features with error budgets and on-call rotations.
• Experience designing evaluations for non-deterministic systems.
• Data engineering depth: SQL and at least one distributed processing framework.
• Fluency with tool calling and agent orchestration.

Responsibilities

• Define product work, measurement framework, and evaluation systems for AI products.
• Run continuous evaluation of APIs, SDKs, data representations, and references.
• Own the MVP against a north star technical design and ship useful increments.
• Build data pipelines: ingestion, conflation, entity resolution, quality checks.
• Design feedback loops so that product usage improves it; instrument failures.
• Participate in on-call rotations to keep systems available 24/7.
