Job summary

Mapbox is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer III to lead the Routing Cost team in designing and delivering high-traffic recommendation systems for routing cost. You will own end-to-end feature implementation within the broader navigation organization and work with a large, multidisciplinary team across engineering and data science.

You will design ML/data pipelines, optimize pipelines, and create tools for QA and data exploration while leveraging geospatial algorithms to improve routing cost

Qualifications

• 8-10+ years backend and ML experience.
• Proficiency in Python and large-scale data processing.
• Experience with Hadoop, Spark, Airflow, and Dask.
• Experience with very large datasets, statistical analysis, and data quality control.
• Cloud proficiency and infra deployment in cloud environments.
• Strong code quality, robust architecture, and ownership mindset.
• Ability to mentor and lead engineering teams and engage in cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end feature implementation for routing cost engine within the navigation org.
• Design and build ML and data pipelines; optimize existing pipelines.
• Build tools for automated quality assurance and data exploration.
• Apply geospatial algorithms to optimize pipelines and develop tuning/outlier detection.
• Collaborate with data scientists to improve movement and traffic models.
• Mentor colleagues and participate in code and design reviews.
• Participate in on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 availability.
