Job summary

VTT in Espoo, Finland, seeks a Research Scientist for Multi-Layered Wiring to advance superconducting wiring stacks and quantum hardware fabrication on 200 mm wafers. Qualifications

  • Hands-on expert in micro- and nanofabrication with interest in quantum technologies.
  • MSc or PhD in applied physics, electrical engineering, materials science, micro/nanotechnology, or similar.
  • At least 3 years of cleanroom experience (including thesis or postdoc work).
  • Experience in lithography, etching, thin film deposition, and microfabrication processes.
  • Understanding of process integration, characterization, and fabrication workflows.
  • Experience with DOE, data analysis, or process optimization.
  • Basic programming skills (e.g., Python).
  • Familiarity with superconducting materials or quantum devices is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and qualify nanofabrication processes for superconducting multi-layered wiring stacks.
  • Perform thin film deposition, lithography, dry etching (RIE/ICP), and wet processing.
  • Contribute to process integration, scaling, and transfer across fabrication platforms.
  • Plan and execute design-of-experiments (DOE) and analyze data for process optimization.
  • Improve process stability, reproducibility, and wafer-scale uniformity.
  • Carry out in-line and wafer-level characterization (e.g. SEM, electrical probing).
  • Analyze process-performance relationships and support continuous improvement.
  • Support process control, yield tracking, and KPI definition.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners in EU projects and research initiatives.
  • Contribute to documentation, technology transfer, and pilot-scale process development.
