Job description

Are you passionate about chemistry, product development and solving technical challenges for industrial customers? We are looking for a Product Development Chemist to strengthen our Protective Coatings business of our Infrastructure & Energy division in Finland.

Within this business area, we develop and maintain high-performance coating solutions for demanding industrial, infrastructure and energy applications where corrosion protection, durability and long-term performance are essential. Our solutions help customers protect valuable assets in industries such as infrastructure, energy, heavy industry and machinery.

As a Product Development Chemist, you will develop new coating solutions, improve existing products and support customer-specific development projects. Working closely with customers, sales, production, procurement, suppliers and colleagues across the Teknos Group, you will help turn technical challenges into practical and sustainable solutions.

This role offers an exciting combination of laboratory work, formulation development, customer collaboration, production support and international teamwork. Depending on your experience and interests, the role may grow towards broader technical responsibility, project leadership, customer-facing projects or future people management opportunities.

As a Product Development Chemist, you will work across the product lifecycle from formulation development and laboratory testing to production support and customer implementation.

Your responsibilities include for example:
  • Developing paints and coating solutions for industrial, infrastructure and energy applications
  • Maintaining and improving existing formulations and product performance
  • Customizing products and solutions to meet customer-specific requirements
  • Evaluating alternative raw materials, technologies and formulation approaches
  • Planning, conducting and analyzing laboratory tests and performance studies
  • Monitoring developments in raw materials, legislation and coating technologies
  • Supporting production through technical problem-solving and process improvements
  • Working closely with suppliers and maintaining supplier relationships
  • Supporting sales teams and customers with technical expertise
  • Participating in customer visits, product trials, technical discussions and training sessions
  • Collaborating with Teknos laboratories and R&D teams globally
  • Maintaining formulation, testing and project information in relevant systems

In practice, your work may involve anything from adapting formulations due to raw material changes to developing completely new coating solutions for customer needs. Success in the role requires curiosity, a structured approach and a willingness to take solutions from laboratory development to production and customer use.

We are looking for a person who enjoys solving problems, learning new things and developing practical solutions together with customers and colleagues.

To succeed, you have:
  • A degree in Chemistry or another relevant scientific or technical field
  • Experience in product development, coatings, paints, chemicals or another relevant industrial environment, or the motivation and capability to grow into the role
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a structured way and manage several priorities at the same time
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively with different stakeholders
  • Good communication skills in English

Finnish language skills are considered an advantage but not a strict requirement.

We particularly appreciate colleagues who:
  • Are curious and eager to learn
  • Take initiative and ownershipEnjoy solving customer challenges
  • Can prioritize and stay organized
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, customers and suppliers
  • Are comfortable balancing technical detail with practical business needs
  • Thrive in an international working environment

You do not need to know everything from day one. What matters most is your willingness to learn, develop and create value for customers.

Whether you are an experienced chemist or earlier in your career, we are open to different backgrounds and levels of experience as the role can be tailored based on your strengths, skills, interests and development goals.

At Teknos, you'll join a collaborative and international R&D environment where expertise is shared across teams and countries.

In this role, you'll combine laboratory work, product development and customer collaboration while developing solutions that create real customer value. You'll have the opportunity to work with technical experts across Europe, expand your expertise, shape your role based on your strengths and interests, and contribute to projects with visible business impact. We offer flexible working practices, supportive colleagues and opportunities for professional growth.

The role is primarily based at our Pitäjänmäki site in Helsinki. Occasional remote work, customer visits and travel to other Teknos locations may be part of the role.
