Job summary

IKIGAIA Bioindustry & Innovation Group is seeking a process design engineer to own the full process, from pilot plant to commercial design, across biobased production facilities.

You will develop concepts for pulping lines, moulded fibre facilities and first-of-a-kind plants, collaborating with automation, mechanical and electrical teams to deliver robust FEED packages and CAPEX/OPEX estimates. Fluent English is required, Finnish is a plus, and travel to sites and pilots is expected.

Qualifications

• MSc or BSc in chemical, process or paper engineering.
• 3+ years of experience in process design within pulp & paper, moulded fibre, biorefinery, chemical or food processing.
• Proficient with balances, sizing calculations and process design; experience with simulation tools and CAD design.

Responsibilities

• Develop process concepts and designs from FEL-1 to FEED: PFDs, P&IDs, mass, water and energy balances, and equipment sizing.
• Produce equipment lists, data sheets and specifications, and evaluate supplier offers technically.
• Collaborate with automation, mechanical and electrical engineering (in-house and partners) on a consistent design basis.
• Support pilot trials, scale-up from pilot data, commissioning and start-up.
• Contribute to CAPEX/OPEX estimates and techno-economic evaluations.

Design the processes that turn residues into products.

Ikigaia Regeneering designs and delivers biobased production plants: pulping lines, moulded fibre facilities and first-of-a-kind plants for the bioindustry. We work from pilot scale to commercial plants. Our current projects turn agricultural residues such as agave and crop stalks into fibre and moulded products.

We are looking for a process design engineer who wants to own the process, not only one module of it.

What you’ll do

• Develop process concepts and designs from FEL-1 to FEED: PFDs, P&IDs, mass, water and energy balances, and equipment sizing.
• Produce equipment lists, data sheets and specifications, and evaluate supplier offers technically.
• Work with automation, mechanical and electrical engineering (in-house and partners) on a consistent design basis.
• Support pilot trials, scale-up from pilot data, commissioning and start-up.
• Contribute to CAPEX/OPEX estimates and techno-economic evaluations.

Who you are

• You hold an M.Sc. or B.Sc. in chemical, process or paper engineering, or similar.
• You have 3+ years of experience in process design in pulp and paper, moulded fibre, biorefinery, chemical or food processing.
• You are confident with balances, sizing calculations and process design. Experience with simulation tools (e.g. WinGEMS, Balas, Aspen, or similar) and various CAD design tools required
• You understand fibre lines: pulping, refining, screening, cleaning, dewatering, forming and drying.
• You work independently, check your own numbers, and enjoy small‑team speed.
• You are fluent in English and Finnish is an advantage and we willing to travel to sites and pilots.
