Job summary

V7 Recruitment is seeking a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to join a client-side PMC team on a 150MW data centre project in Finland. You will act as the Mechanical Lead, overseeing design through construction, commissioning and handover, and coordinating with the MEP Lead and Project Lead.

The role requires strong HVAC and building services expertise, experience managing mechanical contractors, and a proactive, detail‑driven approach to delivery in a fast‑paced hyperscale data centre

Qualifications

• Proven Senior Mechanical Project Engineer or Mechanical Lead background.
• Strong building services experience in HVAC and related systems.
• Experience delivering large-scale data centre or critical facilities projects.
• Client-side, PMC or consultancy exposure is desirable.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical package management across the project.
• Review drawings, specs and BIM models; manage RFIs and design clarifications.
• Monitor installation progress and contractor schedules.
• Ensure quality documentation and commissioning support.

Senior Mechanical Project Engineer – Data Centre

Location: Finland

Project: 150MW Data Centre

Contract: Freelance / Long-Term

Reporting To: MEP Lead & Project Lead – PMC

About the Role

A leading Project Management Consultancy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to join their client-side team on a major 150MW data centre project in Finland.

The successful candidate will act as the Mechanical Lead / subject-matter expert within the PMC team, taking responsibility for overseeing all mechanical aspects of the project from design through construction, commissioning and handover.

As the sole mechanical specialist within the PMC team, you will work closely with the MEP Lead and Project Lead, representing the client's interests and providing technical leadership across the mechanical package.

Key Responsibilities

1. Mechanical Package Management

• Lead and oversee all mechanical works across the project.
• Monitor contractor and subcontractor performance.
• Ensure delivery meets project specifications, programme and design intent.
• Manage interfaces between mechanical, electrical and CSA packages.

2. Design & Technical Oversight

• Review mechanical drawings, specifications, technical submittals and BIM models.
• Manage RFIs, technical queries and design clarifications.
• Identify design, constructability and coordination issues.
• Ensure mechanical systems meet required performance and reliability standards.

3. Construction & Progress

• Monitor mechanical installation and progress against programme.
• Review contractor schedules and sequencing.
• Conduct site inspections and progress reviews.
• Identify and resolve technical and programme issues.

4. Quality & Compliance

• Review method statements, ITPs and quality documentation.
• Monitor installation quality and compliance with specifications.
• Support inspections, testing and commissioning activities.
• Ensure defects and NCRs are effectively closed out.

5. Contractor & Stakeholder Management

• Act as the client's mechanical representative on site.
• Lead mechanical coordination meetings.
• Liaise with contractors, consultants, commissioning teams and project stakeholders.
• Report key mechanical risks and progress to the MEP Lead and Project Lead.

6. Handover

• Oversee mechanical testing and commissioning.
• Review O&M manuals, as-builts and test documentation.
• Support snagging, punch-list closeout and final handover.

Required Experience

• Proven experience as a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer, Mechanical Lead, Mechanical Manager or similar.
• Strong mechanical building services experience.
• Experience delivering large-scale data centre, mission-critical, pharmaceutical or industrial projects.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, cooling, chilled water and associated mechanical systems.
• Experience managing mechanical contractors and subcontractors.
• Strong design review, technical coordination and construction experience.
• Previous experience working client-side, consultancy or PMC is highly desirable.
• Strong communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently as the mechanical authority within a multidisciplinary project team.
