Job summary

Thor Dynamics in Helsinki seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design, develop and test mechanical components for directed energy and counter-drone defense systems. You will create 3D models, drawings and specifications, and perform stress and thermal analyses to ensure safety and performance.

You will collaborate with electrical engineers, software developers and project managers, oversee prototypes, and troubleshoot design issues across the product lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in industrial mechanical engineering, preferably in defense, aerospace, robotics or related industries.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
• Strong understanding of materials science, thermodynamics, and structural analysis.
• Experience with prototyping, testing, and validating mechanical systems.
• Knowledge of directed energy systems or laser technologies is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Fluent in English; proficiency in Finnish is an advantage.
• Candidates must possess either Finnish citizenship or citizenship from another EU member state or US and have legal residency in Finland.
