Position Overview: We are seeking a creative, detail-oriented, and innovative Industrial Designer to join our team in Helsinki. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing the aesthetic, ergonomic, and functional aspects of Thor Dynamics’ advanced directed energy systems. This role is key to ensuring that our products are not only highly functional but also user-friendly and visually appealing.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop the form, function, and ergonomics of directed energy and counter-drone defense systems.
• Create detailed sketches, 3D models, and prototypes to visualize and communicate design concepts.
• Collaborate with engineering, marketing, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet technical requirements and user needs.
• Conduct user research and usability testing to inform design decisions.
• Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes for product development.
• Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and performance criteria.
• Present design concepts and solutions to stakeholders and incorporate feedback into final designs.
• Support the development and presentation of products at the 70-acre test and demonstration facility in Helsinki.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in industrial design, preferably in defense, aerospace, or high-tech industries.
• Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, SolidWorks, Rhino, or similar tools.
• Strong understanding of human factors, ergonomics, and user-centered design principles.
• Experience with rapid prototyping, 3D printing, and other model-making techniques.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Fluent in English; proficiency in Finnish is an advantage.
