Position Overview: We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Optical Engineer to join our team in Helsinki. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, testing, and optimization of optical systems integral to Thor Dynamics’ directed energy technologies. This role is critical to ensuring the precision, performance, and reliability of our counter-drone defense solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop advanced optical systems and components for directed energy applications.
• Perform optical simulations and modeling to optimize system performance.
• Conduct laboratory testing and validation of optical components and systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, to develop integrated solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve optical design and performance issues.
• Prepare detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and user manuals.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
• Support the setup and operation of the 70-acre test and demonstration facility in Helsinki.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in optical design and engineering, preferably in defense, aerospace, or high-tech industries.
• Proficiency in optical design software such as Zemax, Code V, or LightTools.
• Strong understanding of laser systems, fiber optics, and photonics technologies.
• Experience with optical alignment, testing, and metrology techniques.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Fluent in English; proficiency in Finnish is an advantage.
