Job summary

GE Vernova’s Grid Automation R&D team is seeking a Lead Power Systems Protection & Control Application Engineer to bridge theory and practical algorithm implementation. You will drive protection design, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product teams to advance digital substation technologies.

The role requires 5+ years in protection and control, a Master/PhD in electrical engineering, and strong communication skills. Canada-based salary ranges and discretionary bonus are offered.

Qualifications

• Master or PhD in electrical engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of protection and control system design experience.
• Minimum 3 years designing detailed P&C algorithm specifications (relay environment).
• Extensive experience in protection, automation and control product development.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed design specifications for P&C algorithms.
• Conduct proof-of-concept studies using PSCAD/RTDS/MATLAB.
• Drive root cause analysis of protection incidents.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues.
• Author technical papers and present at industry events.
• Prepare training material and deliver trainings as needed.
• Identify patentable innovations to strengthen IP portfolio.
• Provide guidance and training to new engineers.
