GE Vernova Grid Solutions seeks a Senior Lead SCADA/HMI Engineer in Finland to guide and elevate the design of SCADA/HMI and communication systems for STATCOM projects. You will own the technical solution, review deliverables, and drive best practices across the CoE with a focus on quality and security.
You will mentor peers, ensure compliance with industry standards, and stay ahead of trends while facilitating collaboration across international teams and customer sites.

As a Senior Lead SCADA/HMI Engineer, you will guide and elevate the work of other engineers through clear technical direction, structured reviews, and formal approval processes. You will hold strong accountability for the technical solution, take ownership of the design, engineering, configuration, and validation of SCADA/HMI and communication systems across our product and solution portfolio. You are expected to provide both verbal and written technical leadership, ensuring engineering quality, consistency, and adherence to standards. Your role includes mentoring peers, reviewing deliverables, and driving best practices across the team. You are a seasoned expert, however more than exact years of experience, we expect you to be a self-starter with high level of flexibility, resilience, and self-learning attitude.
Technical Leadership: Lead and review the design, specifications and team deliverables. Ensure quality deliverables, lead technical initiatives and continuous improvement. Diagnose and resolve issues related to SCADA, HMI, and communication systems promptly. Identify and implement improvements to enhance the efficiency and reliability of SCADA/HMI systems.
System Design and Architecture: Design and refine the architecture for SCADA systems tailored to STATCOM projects. Additionally, develop user-friendly HMIs for real-time monitoring and control of STATCOM systems and select and design appropriate communication protocols (e.g., MODBUS, DNP3, IEC 61850) for data exchange.
Implementation and Integration: Oversee the installation and commissioning of SCADA/HMI systems in STATCOM projects and ensure seamless integration of SCADA systems with existing infrastructure and other control systems. Conduct rigorous testing (functional and performance testing) to validate system reliability and performance.
Lifecycle Management: Manage system updates, patches, and upgrades to enhance functionality and security.
Compliance and Cyber security: Ensure that all systems comply with relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., NERC CIP, IEC 62351). Knowledge on cyber security practices and controls such as IEC62443.
Technology awareness: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to innovate and enhance system capabilities. Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology
Advanced experience in SCADA engineering from energy, industrial or utility projects
Familiarity with design engineering tools e.g. Aveva Plant SCADA, Eaton SMP gateway, Zenon software platform etc.
Familiarity with network traffic debugging tools. e.g: Wireshark
Familiarity with testing/simulator tools. e.g. IEDScout, TMW Test Harness
Experience in electrical design of substation secondary systems is a benefit
Knowing electro-technical standards is a benefit
Ability to interpret customer technical specifications
Fluent written and oral skills in English; other languages are benefit
Ability to travel to customer sites
