We are looking for a Lead Firmware Test Engineer

Are you an experienced test automation professional looking for an opportunity to take technical ownership of firmware verification, validation, and test automation within a global product development environment?

We are now looking for a Lead Firmware Test Engineer to join Eaton's growing R&D organization in Vantaa. In this role, you will lead design testing, laboratory activities, and verification & validation (V&V) efforts for embedded and application software used in power conversion products. You will play a key role in defining test strategies, developing automation frameworks, and ensuring high‑quality product releases.

This position combines hands‑on test automation development with technical leadership. You will work closely with firmware, hardware, systems, and validation teams while helping drive testing methodologies, laboratory practices, and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.

As Eaton continues to invest in the development of next‑generation critical power solutions, this role offers an opportunity to influence how embedded software is tested and validated throughout the product lifecycle. You will contribute both at a strategic level, by defining testing approaches and automation practices, and at a practical level, by supporting test execution, troubleshooting, and laboratory activities.

Key responsibilities
  • Define and own overall test strategies and verification approaches for embedded firmware and system‑level validation of critical power systems.
  • Lead the development of test plans, test specifications, and verification matrices aligned with product requirements, standards, and program objectives.
  • Provide technical direction for manual testing, automated testing, and HiL/MiL/SiL validation strategies while ensuring robust test coverage.
  • Lead and contribute to manual and automated testing of embedded firmware functionality, performance, load, fault scenarios, and safety‑related behaviors.
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable test automation frameworks using Python, Robot Framework, and related technologies.
  • Define automation standards and integrate test automation into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous testing and release readiness.
  • Review test results, support root‑cause analysis, and guide teams in troubleshooting and debugging activities.
  • Provide technical oversight for laboratory testing, including communication interfaces, system interactions, and real‑time control behavior.
  • Ensure safe operation of laboratory environments and compliance with relevant safety requirements and best practices.
Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution with a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience or Master's degree in a relevant engineering field with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.

Experience

  • Strong experience in embedded firmware testing, validation, and system‑level verification.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership or mentoring in test or validation roles.
  • Hands‑on experience working in high‑power engineering and test laboratory environments.

Skills

  • Experience with power conversion products or critical power infrastructure.
  • Strong experience in C++, Python, and test automation framework development, including Robot Framework and CI/CD integration.
  • Hands‑on experience with high‑power testing, including 400-480 Vac and 1500 Vdc equipment.
  • Experience with HiL‑based systems, such as OPAL‑RT, and real‑time simulation platforms.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols, databases, and message‑based systems.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership while remaining hands‑on.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting technical results and risks to stakeholders.
  • Strong focus on safety, quality, and reliability in high‑power electrical environments.
What Eaton offers
