Veikkaus Group in Helsinki is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to join the Data as a Service team. You will lead data ingestions, SQL and ETL/ELT processes, shaping the data platform and guiding a team of engineers to deliver reliable analytics-ready data.

This full-time, permanent role offers a hybrid work model with three days at the office. English is the main language; Finnish skills are a plus. Applicants should have senior-level data engineering experience and a hands-on, architectural mindset.

Job description

Would you like to play a key role in turning data from Finland’s largest e-commerce platform, one of the country’s most extensive customer bases, and vast volumes of gaming event data into a strong foundation for data-driven decision‑making? We are now looking for a Lead Data Engineer to join our team.
We are the Data as a Service (DaaS) team, a core part of Veikkaus' TECH organization. Our team of around 20 professionals isresponsible for the data's core journey— from integrating data through various interfaces, to transforming and storing it, and ultimately delivering it for analytics and other solutions.
Our day‑to‑day work includes maintaining existing solutions, building new ones, and continuously developing our ways of working — both in terms of technology and processes. We design and build future data platform solutions while continuously improving efficiency.
This position is full time and permanent and located at Veikkaus’ headquarters in Pohjois‑Haaga, Helsinki. We work flexibly in a hybrid model - to foster collaboration and teamwork we meet at the office three times a week. Please note that this job requires a valid residence permit for all non‑EU citizens.

This role is for you if you

bring extensive experiencein data engineering or related roles, with a clear track record of working at a senior or lead level. We expect you to have strong hands‑on experience in data ingestions, SQL and ETL/ELT processes.
You also

• have a deep technical understanding of the architecture along with a vision of how to get there – and the ability to inspire and lead other data engineers towards it
• are passionate about technical data processing
• are familiar with agile methods and understand their value
• appreciate long‑term development and continuous improvement

In this role as a Lead Data Engineer, we expect not only solid expertise and vision, but also a drive to develop team practices and tools, support the implementation of changes, guide daily work, and help colleagues succeed. The role can be shaped based on your strengths and experience.
