Job summary

The University of Turku invites applications for a University Research Fellow in Environmental Remote Sensing and Geospatial Computing. The position is split between DIWA Flagship research and teaching within the Space Technology and Environmental Remote Sensing Master’s programme, with English as the teaching language.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in geography, geoinformatics, remote sensing, environmental sciences, forest sciences or related field.
• Strong expertise in environmental remote sensing and geospatial data analysis.
• Proficiency in Python and/or R and GIS software; reproducible workflows.
• Experience in university-level teaching, course design, and student supervision.
• Excellent written and spoken English; strong collaboration and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent and collaborative research in environmental remote sensing and geospatial analytics.
• Use multi-source remote sensing datasets, integrating satellite LiDAR and UAV data with field observations.
• Apply statistical modelling, machine learning, and AI for analysis and visualization of large geospatial datasets.
• Translate research data into applications for sustainable water management and environmental monitoring.
• Publish in peer-reviewed journals; manage research data and software; promote open science.
• Supervise Master's and doctoral students and contribute to curriculum development and collaboration.
