4-year Postdoc Position (ordered spatial point processes & forest inventory)

Jul 6, 2017

University of Eastern Finland,
Joensuu Campus
School of Computing
Call closing on 15.8.2017
Post starting on 1.9.2017 or later

We are looking for an internationally recognised scientist, who has a doctoral degree in a field relevant to the position (e.g. statistics, stochastics, forest sciences) and who is well equipped to develop the theory and computational methods related to spatial point patterns. Familiarity with remote sensing of forests and Bayesian computational methods will be regarded as merits.

The work includes the development of the theory, estimation methods and inference of ordered spatial point patterns, and applications to forest inventory based on remote sensing.

The position constitutes part of a consortium project Models of heterogeneity, contextuality and self-interaction in ordered spatial point patterns with applications to animal movement and forest inventory, funded by the Academy of Finland. The other partner of the consortium is the National Resources Institute Finland. The work is related to the university’s international top-level research area Forests, global change and bioeconomy.
