Job summary

Metsä Group in Espoo, Finland, invites a Data Scientist to join its Digital & AI function on a permanent basis. You will transform complex business challenges into data-driven solutions using analytics, ML, optimization and generative AI to create measurable value.

You’ll design and productionize ML/AI capabilities, collaborate with business experts, data engineers and software developers, and help establish governance for DS/AI initiatives while mentoring junior members of the team.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Applied Mathematics, Economics, Data Science, CS or similar.
• Strong analytics, ML, optimization and modelling experience.
• Experience with hypothesis-driven problem solving and business case evaluation.
• Excellent Python and SQL programming skills.
• Knowledge of Databricks ML and cloud-based data science environments.
• Familiarity with Azure AI Foundry and Azure DevOps Repos.
• Experience automating development tasks with AI tools like Genie Code or Copilot.
• Ability to communicate complex analyses to technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and evaluate ML/AI-based solutions from hypothesis to production.
• Collaborate with data engineers and software developers to solve business problems.
• Manage experimentation portfolios and model inventories; assess outcomes.
• Establish best practices, development standards and governance for DS/AI.
• Mentor junior data scientists and analysts when needed.
• Communicate analytical findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
