Job summary

Metsä Group is hiring a Data Scientist to join the Digital & AI function in Espoo, Finland. You will transform complex business challenges into data-driven solutions using advanced analytics, ML, optimization and generative AI to improve efficiency and support innovation.

You will design and scale AI-based solutions, collaborate with data engineers and developers, and manage experimentation portfolios while promoting governance and best practices within the team.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in a relevant discipline.
• Strong expertise in analytics, ML, optimization and modelling.
• Experience in hypothesis-driven problem solving and evaluation.
• Excellent programming skills in Python and SQL.
• Knowledge of Azure cloud services and Databricks ML.
• Experience with AI-based tooling and automation.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and evaluate ML, optimization and AI-based solutions from hypothesis to production-ready.
• Collaborate with business experts, data engineers and software developers to solve business problems.
• Manage experimentation portfolios and model inventories, assess outcomes and guide next steps.
• Establish best practices, development standards and governance for DS/AI initiatives.
• Mentor junior data scientists and analysts.
