Job summary

Metsä Group is seeking a Data Scientist in Espoo, Finland, to transform business challenges into data-driven solutions. You will design and deploy ML and AI-based capabilities, work with data engineers and software developers, and manage experimentation while upholding governance and best practices.

You will communicate insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders and mentor junior team members, contributing to innovation across the organization.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in a quantitative field (Applied Math, Economics, Data Science, CS or similar).
• Strong expertise in analytics, ML, optimization and modelling.
• Experience with hypothesis-driven problem solving and business case evaluation.
• Excellent Python programming and data-science libraries; SQL experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and evaluate ML, optimization and AI-based solutions from hypotheses to deployment.
• Collaborate with data engineers and software developers to solve business problems.
• Manage experimentation portfolios and model inventories; assess outcomes and guide next steps.
• Establish best practices, standards and governance for data science and AI initiatives.
• Mentor junior data scientists and analysts and communicate results to stakeholders.
