Responsibilities

• Plan and execute service, repair, upgrade, and modernization projects related to automation and control systems in Steerprop's propulsion solutions.
• Provide field service and technical support on customer vessels worldwide.
• Troubleshoot automation and control systems, perform diagnostics, measurements, and root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Commission and test automation and control systems as part of project deliveries and service activities.
• Accurately document service activities, technical findings, modifications, and recommendations.
• Contribute to continuous development and improvement of our automation and control systems and service methods.

Job description

We are looking for a skilled and customer-focused Automation Service Engineer to strengthen our Service team. In this role, you will work with the automation and control systems used in Steerprop's propulsion solutions, supporting customers and solving technical challenges both remotely and on-site around the world. You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of our systems and services.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work with advanced technology in an international environment. The role combines independent problem-solving and collaboration with customers and colleagues. Prior marine industry experience is not required – a background in industrial or machine automation, controls engineering, commissioning, or technical service is highly relevant, and we will support you in developing the marine-specific knowledge required for this role.

Key areas of responsibility:

• Planning and executing service, repair, upgrade, and modernization projects related to automation and control systems in Steerprop's propulsion solutions.
• Providing field service and technical support on customer vessels worldwide.
• Troubleshooting automation and control systems, performing diagnostics, measurements, and root-cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
• Commissioning and testing automation and control systems as part of project deliveries and service activities.
• Accurately documenting service activities, technical findings, modifications, and recommendations.
• Contributing to the continuous development and improvement of our automation and control systems and service methods.

The skills and experience we value:

• Hands-on experience with automation systems in industrial machinery and equipment, including machine controls, PLC-based systems, sensors, actuators, and field instrumentation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently.
• A customer-oriented mindset and strong communication skills.
• Willingness and flexibility to travel internationally.
• Fluency in spoken and written Finnish and English.
• Relevant technical education (e.g. automation, electrical, or mechanical engineering).
• An understanding of marine industry systems is considered an advantage.
