Job summary

Saab Sensor Technology Center in Tampere is seeking an Antenna Engineer to design, simulate, prototype, and optimize antennas for high-reliability electronic warfare systems. You will collaborate with system design, software, hardware, and testing teams to meet demanding requirements.

Using CST/HFSS, you will validate designs through measurements, develop functional prototypes, and ensure production readiness.

Qualifications

• Experience in antenna design and optimization using CST, HFSS, or similar.
• Strong understanding of key antenna performance metrics (gain, efficiency, return loss, radiation patterns, bandwidth).
• Proficiency in using measurement equipment (signal generators, spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers).
• Advanced MATLAB skills are highly valuable.

Job description

Join our Radio Frequency (RF) and Microwave Development team in Tampere and play a key role in designing advanced antenna solutions for state-of-the-art electronic warfare systems. In this position, you will take ownership of antenna development from simulation and prototyping to testing and product integration.

Your role

As an Antenna Engineer, you will design, simulate, prototype, and optimize antennas for demanding high-reliability applications. You will collaborate closely with system design, software, hardware, and testing teams to define requirements and develop effective antenna solutions.

In this role, you will use simulation tools to optimize antenna performance, validate designs through measurements, and develop functional prototypes that meet technical and environmental requirements. You will also contribute to ensuring that your designs are manufacturable and suitable for production.

Depending on your expertise and interests, you will have an opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies while also engaging with practical radio technology, electronics, mechanics, and embedded software. The position offers involvement throughout the entire product development lifecycle, from concept development and design to testing and product realization.

Documentation is an essential part of designing high-reliability systems, and you will create and maintain technical documentation in both Finnish and English.

The role is primarily based at our office and laboratory facilities in Tampere, though occasional international travel may be required.

Your profile

To succeed in this role, you have experience in antenna design, simulation, and performance optimization, along with a solid understanding of electromagnetic principles. You are comfortable working independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.

Requirements

• Experience in antenna design and optimization using various simulation tools such as CST, HFSS, or similar
• Strong understanding of key antenna performance metrics, including gain, efficiency, return loss, radiation patterns, and bandwidth
• Proficiency in using measurement equipment, such as signal generators, spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers
• Advanced skills in MATLAB are highly valuable
• An M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics, with a focus on Electromagnetics

In addition, the following experience would be considered an advantage

• Experience in making design trade-offs and negotiating with internal stakeholders to prioritize key performance metrics
• Knowledge of different antenna types and the ability to identify performance limitations
• Experience with environmental testing and military equipment standards
