About your role

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow in the IRAPP (Research Institute for Evaluation and Public Policies) for the project “FLASH – Flexible Approach to Support Health through Financing” Funded by the Horizon Europe Programme – Call Horizon-HLT-2022-CARE-08-04: “Better financing models for health systems” under the Gran Agreement No. 101095424 – CUPE63C22002360006, to undertake research under the supervision of Professor Toni Mora at UIC Barcelona.

Key tasks

The research fellow will autonomously develop research topics and use empirical econometric methods. A relevant research activity is a systematic review of the international literature on several aspects of Health Economics, particularly Mental Health. Further research activities also involve statistical data analysis and Machine Learning techniques.

• Search related literature.
• Write research academic papers.
• Conduct micro‑econometric analysis.
• Apply Machine Learning methodologies.

The postdoctoral associate is expected to develop proficiency in the relevant literature in this research area, prepare first‑ and co‑authored manuscripts and research proposals, and present at professional meetings.

Research Field Economics: Economic policy

Education Level: Master’s degree or equivalent

Professional knowledge and experience (75%)

• The ability to undertake mentored research with a high degree of independence. Special attention will be paid to applicants who have contributed by publishing research papers in high‑impact journals (50%).

Specific skills (25%)

• Applied microeconometric methods.
• Machine Learning methodology.
• Knowledge of Stata, R, and Python.

Specific Requirements To apply to the call, the following requirements are:

• Master’s degree or equivalent degrees in Economics or Statistics or equivalent qualification awarded abroad, with a scientific‑professional curriculum suitable for research activities.
• Candidates are required to know the language: English.

The UIC Barcelona selection process, as outlined in the European OTM‑R, will be carried out in two phases: a first pre‑selection phase and a second interview phase. The project PI will be tasked with carrying out the initial evaluation and the subsequent interview. He might partner with other experts, both inside and outside UIC Barcelona, to complete the two phases of the selection process.

In the first phase, the following criteria will be assessed:

• Interdisciplinarity of the candidate.

In the second phase of interviews, the following will be considered:

• Discuss the candidate’s CV that is relevant to the position.
• Interpersonal skills.
