Job summary

Nalanda Global in Madrid is seeking an experienced Technical Leader to redefine how we build software. You will steer architecture, mentor engineers, and push AI-powered workflows across frontend, backend, and QA, collaborating with Product and Design to deliver scalable solutions used by thousands.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Proven technical leadership experience leading engineering teams or major technical initiatives.
• Strong hands-on experience with modern web stacks (Java/Spring, Node.js, Vue, React).
• Deep understanding of software architecture, testing, CI/CD, observability, and modern practices.
• Practical experience with AI coding agents and AI-driven development workflows.
• Ability to manage task decomposition, context, validation, and human oversight in agentic workflows.
• Excellent communication skills and professional English proficiency.

Role Summary

We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Technical Leader to help redefine how we build software.

We're moving towards an AI-driven engineering model, combining strong technical foundations with coding agents, automation, and smaller, more autonomous teams.

We need someone who is already using AI to build software, understands its capabilities and limitations, and can help turn emerging practices into reliable, scalable engineering workflows.

You'll lead a multidisciplinary team across frontend, backend, and QA, working closely with Product and Design to deliver software used by thousands of people.

Key responsibilities

• Own technical direction: Lead architecture and engineering decisions, balancing scalability, maintainability, and delivery speed.
• Lead by example: Stay hands-on with coding, technical problem-solving, and engineering decisions.
• Drive AI-powered engineering: Introduce and evolve agentic development workflows across implementation, testing, code review, refactoring, and delivery.
• Rethink team productivity: Identify opportunities for autonomous agents, parallel execution, and automation, while maintaining engineering quality and accountability.
• Develop your team: Mentor engineers, raise technical standards, and help them adopt new AI-driven ways of working.
• Own delivery: Collaborate with Product and Design to ship reliable solutions, modernise existing systems, and continuously improve engineering practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong track record of designing, building, and operating production systems.
• Proven technical leadership experience, leading engineering teams or significant technical initiatives while remaining hands-on.
• Solid hands-on expertise with Java/Spring, Node.js, Vue, React, or comparable technologies.
• Deep understanding of software architecture, testing, CI/CD, observability, and modern engineering practices.
• Practical experience with AI coding agents (such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or similar), going beyond autocomplete or occasional code generation.
• Demonstrated use of AI in real development workflows, including implementation, debugging, testing, refactoring, or automating engineering tasks.
• Understanding of agentic workflows, including task decomposition, context management, validation, and human oversight.
• Strong ownership, pragmatic decision-making, and the ability to challenge established practices.
• Excellent communication skills and professional proficiency in English.

Nice to have

• Experience with multi-agent workflows or autonomous software engineering systems.
• Background in legacy modernisation, distributed systems, or event-driven architectures.
• Experience with cloud platforms, infrastructure-as-code, and developer tooling.
