Job summary

Checkatrade seeks a Senior Software Engineer in Trust & Safety to own verification systems, review workflows, and content moderation. You’ll tackle incident response, design robust event-driven processes, and partner with vetting and reviews teams to define trust in day-to-day operations.

Expect a strong focus on monitoring, defensive coding, and data consistency across services, with AI-assisted tooling to enhance delivery. Hybrid work and a fast-paced, collaborative culture are offered.

Qualifications

• Strong TypeScript. Own a service end to end from schema to deployment.
• Fastify or a similar Node.js framework with solid HTTP know-how.
• Event-driven instincts; understand idempotency and the outbox pattern.
• Full-stack comfort; able to ship frontend with Next.js and the service behind it.
• Datadog fluency: tracing, logs, metrics; basic SQL diagnostics.
• Experience leading production incidents and communicating under pressure.
• Eye for systemic problems at review time; uplift teammates.
• Regular use of AI tools (Cursor, Claude) to boost team output.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve systems behind verification, reviews flow, and content moderation.
• Lead incident response: read traces, correlate logs, diagnose root causes.
• Design reliable event-driven workflows with idempotent, retryable patterns; DLQ handling.
• Collaborate with vetting and reviews teams to align on trust metrics.
• Improve operational seams: monitoring, alerting, auth hardening, outbox data consistency.
