Job summary

GE Vernova is seeking a Lead Power Systems Protection & Control Application Engineer to bridge power system theory with practical algorithm implementation. You will develop detailed P&C design specifications and lead protection algorithm projects within Grid Automation.

The role requires deep knowledge of protection systems, MATLAB/Simulink modeling, RTDS/PSCAD/ATP-EMTP proficiency, and collaboration with product teams to drive innovative digital substation solutions.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years in protection and control system design.
• At least 3 years developing detailed P&C design specifications, preferably in relay manufacturing.
• Extensive experience in power system protection, automation and control product development.
• Model-based design with MATLAB/Simulink; familiarity with RTDS, PSCAD or ATP/EMTP.
• Proven publication/presentation track record in industry forums.
• Familiarity with industry standards and documentation procedures for electrical utilities.
• Knowledge of modern protection and control and distribution automation developments.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed design specifications for P&C algorithms.
• Conduct PoC studies using PSCAD, RTDS, or MATLAB/Simulink.
• Drive root cause analysis of incidents related to P&C algorithms.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues with algorithms, products, and customer cases.
• Author technical papers and present materials at tradeshows and conferences.
• Prepare training material and deliver training where required.
• Identify opportunities for patentable innovations to strengthen IP portfolio.
• Provide technical guidance and training to new engineers and technicians.
• Analyze market trends and requirements to propose new GE Vernova Digital Energy developments.
